Senior year - one course sucks

ucsd’s conditions of admission:

(1) your senior year gpa in all uc-approved courses must be at least 3.00;
(2) you must receive a “c” or better in all college preparatory courses taking in senior year.

in my second semester, if i get a D in one course which is not in my high school’s uc-approved course list, will it hurt ?

according to (1), it is not counted towards gpa calculation as it is not uc-approved course. but will it be counted as college preparatory course under (2) above ? the course i am talking only lasts for one semester.

why dont you just not get a D, stop slacking.

And think about it, if you’re going to get D’s in high school, seems pretty probable you’ll get F’s in college. So hey, why not just quit now. Or stop looking for answers on forums because I’m pretty sure no one here is an admissions officer and therefore the best advice they can give you is to call them…do you really need to hear it from us? Instead of wasting your time here why not study for the class you’re getting a D in??? And I don’t believe you if you say its not possible to raise it, because I’m sure there’s a way. Stop looking for excuses to slack off.

Wow. Harsh and straight to the point.
She is right, though. Don’t let yourself settle for a D. You still want to be able to show the admissions officers that you’re worthy of their acceptance.

What kind of class are we taking about here? If it’s something like PE, then no it won’t hurt.

I’m inclined to say that, it it is not a UC-approved course, then it is not a college-prep course. That’s how it is at my school. Ask your counselor.

And to all you harsh kiddies: A D in a senior-year class doesn’t mean F’s in college. Obviously sheep has had a decent high school record, and by senior year (at least for me), HS seems a trivial, pointless, worthless babysitting session. Not everyone decided to ramp it up senior year… Every day all I do is watch movies and play N64 in AP Eng, then run around in field sports and I’m done. I expect that going to college will be refreshing, and working hard will be easier due to the worthwhile nature of the classes.

Senioritis: We’d search for a cure, but we just dont give a ****.

if you had any amount of brain matter, you should be able to get a C without trying … hoboknifefight is right

“if you had any amount of brain matter, you should be able to get a C without trying”

you’re cute. =]

You guys are douches.

ckpcw,

the subject i am talking about is “health”.

anyway i will try hard to avoid “D”, don’t worry. i ask this question just in case i get the “D” in the final transcripts.

thanks for advices from you and other guys.

ckpcw: I love the senioritis quote…your day sounds a lot like mine…ap english (today we watched a choir sing) ap psych (easy for the seniors horribly hard for the juniors MUAHAHAHHA) off block (suntanning) honors chem (blow things up and play with water) ap calc (play volleyball with bagels, and complain about integrals) off block again (more sun tanning) anatomy/physiology (chase the ducks with our valedictorian).

rgryhtjuji what-everrr!!! My senior year is freaking terrible…Psychology/sociology, AP English, AP Stats, AP calc, AP Spanish, AP Govt/Econ…I mean, none of the classes are hard in themselves…but put together it is the worst schedule ever. =(

My senior schedule is pretty horrdendous, as well. I’m taking 2 AP and 4 IB classes this year. I’ve been able to maintain a 4.5 GPA this year, but at the cost of going out a lot less than previous years.

i’m kinda struggling too…so many borderline grades, i have a 3.0 uw as of now, but it can go either up or down…and yeah it’s all thanks to senioritis

hoboknifefight, you think your classes are bad put together? Mine are:
AP Physics
AP Spanish Lit
AP Chem
AP English Lit
AP Calc
AP Comp Civics

Although that’s undoubtedly not as bad as the 4 IB classes :)

what are IB classes anyway?? they are harder than AP?? someone help me, im so ignorant as I am so sheltered in this small town…

and everlasting…i dont see how yours is worse than mine…

IB is essentially the same as AP except that it is more of a program rather than just a course label. IB classes are weighted in my school and we do take exams for college credit, but it is supposed to be a mixture of 6 exams (3 standard level / 3 higher level) that you test in Junior/Senior year, and if your composite score is high enough, you can be awarded an IB Diploma along with even more free college credits.

hoboknifefight, I took all the classes on your list (or currently am). AP chem isn’t that hard, but it’s a lot of work put together. Now AP physics. Let’s just that we have some tests where the average is something like 8 out of 25. Keep in mind that most of the kids in this class are good students. Mostly above a 4.0 GPA. That either speaks for the class, or just says that we have a horrible teacher.
Maybe both :P

so what, I’m not saying mine is harder…but I dont think yours is harder either…I took AP chem last year…but I mean…any 6 AP classes is a terrible schedule…it sucks because they arent hard…its just that I dont have enough time to focus on any single one =(
do you have this problem too?? or are you too good =(

hoboknifefight, sorry, I thought you were implying that my classes weren’t hard at all. Which I realize isn’t the case now. I’m probably just tired.

I sometimes have that problem with chem and physics. Otherwise it’s just making sure that I get all my work done and don’t leave everything to the last minute.

i leave everything till the last minute =o
…and then just end up not doing anything at all… =(
but i somehow managed a 4.43 GPA???
…it just gives me more of a reason to slack off =/
but hey,
GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOUR AP TESTS!!! =]

they’re coming up so quickly =(
