I want to study Education or Nursing.

At this point, it’s going to be hard to change your GPA much. Some colleges don’t even take senior year into account. Your GPA isn’t great, but it’s okay and yes you’ll find colleges that will admit you. Education will be easier than nursing but you can apply to both majors/
What state do you live in? What’s your parents’ budget?
I live in Texas & I have my moms hazelwood act .
how would education be easier ? @MYOS1634
Texas admissions are rank-based, so what’s your class rank?
For education, Texas State is very good.
Education, as a field, is less selective than nursing, which is very selective.
My ranks is just as bad as my gpa :-S , but my senior year I’m trying to make it at least a 3.0
It doesn’t matter that you think it’s bad, to help you we need to know your rank (bottom 50%?) Texas admits by rank, so, to suggest universities for nursing or education, we need to know what rank you are, what classes you’re taking etc. For instance, how many Honors classes do you have? Would switching to regular level help you get better grades? Does your high school weigh grades, ie. your rank depends on how many AP/Honors classes you took, vs. Regular/Electives? Or does it depend strictly on how many A’s you got? What type of diploma are you going for?
What are your study techniques? How do you explain your GPA - a few subjects where you get C’s and other subjects where you get Bs? Or B-s all accross the board?
check your message @MYOS1634
Does your mom’s Hazelwood act allow you to enroll in out-of-state colleges?
Because OOS colleges won’t care about your rank, whereas TX colleges will.
Private colleges (some of them) may also look at GPA + test scores and not rank.
What’s your SAT score? ACT?
What’s your foreign language? Can’t you do credit recovery over the summer?
Have you taken an art credit? Why are you taking Anatomy&Physiology - or is that an “easy” science?
Are your grades due to not spending enough time on homework? On family issues (not having your own room, loud siblings/relative…) ? On having to work 30+hours a week? On doing hw with phone and computer on, thus getting too distracted?
Did you get a tutor? Did you ask for help?
The hazelwood act is only Texas .
haven’t taken an official SAT, the PSAT I took I got a 980 on it (CR+M+R)
I took Spanish 1&2 . I took Dance .
Taking credit recovery when school comes back around in the fall.
Anatomy & Physiology is interesting to me.
GPA is bad because I have a rough sophomore year (my at home life).
grades I get A & Bs , maybe one C but this year I failed honors classes because they are too advanced for me.
That GPA is not too hot…sorry to be blunt but there is virtually nothing you can do unless you get straight A’s in AP classes to bring it up to like a 3.5…if your home life was rough that distracted your grades, maybe you can include that struggle in your essay when applying to colleges. The only thing you can do is do doable classes in Senior year and pass them with flying colors because some colleges may ask for your grades in senior year and if they see that you pulled your act together they would accept you. Good luck.
I’m taking AP anatomy, AP Psychology & Dual Collehe Algebra?? that’s enough ? @CougarCatClan
@alluring2016 Don’t worry about your GPA, try your best and those APs sound very interesting! And is it just Algebra or is it Alg 3 or…? I think you’ll be fine and remember life isn’t just a number! You’ll get into a great college. BTW your GPA would be above a 3.0 if you do well in those classes
The reason you’re in this trouble is because you got F’s in Algebra Honors and AP Physics. Taking 3 AP classes won’t have a different result. Dual Enrollment classes go very fast and Math is clearly not your strong point - any chance you can take Statistics instead? College Algebra, ie., precalculus, is very abstract (have you had Algebra 2 and what grade did you get?)
AP Anatomy doesn’t exist.
AP Psychology is a good choice but check with your guidance counselor, if your school is still in session, whether you’d be allowed to drop down to Honors Psychology or Regular Psychology?
Most Texas public universities will consider your rank until the end of Junior Year, so you’re pretty locked to be going to a community college. They may consider other factors, such as SAT score and course rigor, but
Is there a community college near where you live?
You could also try to apply to UT El Paso, Brownsville, or San Antonio. UT El Paso is a reach but if you improve your SAT score to 1500 you’d have a shot.
If you could apply outside of Texas, where they consider GPA, you’d have a shot at other universities. But the Hazelwood wouldn’t apply. Does your mother have any other benefits that would apply to other States or to private colleges in Texas?
Hazelwood applies for community colleges, and that’s your best bet: if you take 4 classes your first semester, do well in them, take 5 classes second semester, do well in them, then a summer class, then 5 classes your sophomore year, you can transfer to any university in Texas and your Hazelwood would still apply.
If you go to a 4-year college and don’t do well, you’ve still used up your Hazelwood - and there’s a limited number of credits it can be used for.
However, we know it’s easier to get through to the 4-year college if you start at a 4-year college, so starting at UT El Paso might be a good compromise.
And you have another problem: your SAT score indicates you’re nowhere near ready for college. Did you take the SAT and/or ACT this June? Post back here when you have your results.
980 on CR+M+W is equivalent to a 13 on the ACT. You’d need to have a 1500SAT or about 22 ACT to be ready for a moderately selective 4-year college.
Right now, the following 4-year colleges are reaches for you but outside of community colleges they’re pretty much it:
Texas A&M/International; Prairie View A&M; Our Lady of the Lake; University of Houston/Downtown; University of Houston/Victoria; UT El Paso.
Not all of these are public, meaning Hazelwood wouldn’t apply there… but some are, so plan to apply to all of them and keep your fingers crossed.
If you have a choice, compare graduation rates and support services first.
Well you could apply for a community college. Then afterwards, when 2 years pass, you can transfer over to a school that may take you.
It’s Honors Anatomy. My final grade of on level algebra 2 is a 83. So I think I would do good in College Algebra.
I’m just going to shoot for UTSA (it’s one of my top 3), Lamar University and Texas Southern University… I’m not going to attend a two year university. Im going to a four year.
I believe that the appeal with UTSA will really help me get accepted. I’m studying for my upcoming ACT and SAT. I plan to get at least a 1200.
Students have a lot of plans. Study hard, using the free Khan academy website. Do include the 4-year colleges I listed since, if you do well, you’d have a shot. Look into st Edward’s as a reach.
I’m in pretty much the same boat…I didn’t fail any classes but there was a close call.
Are you taking or retaking any classes over the summer? Depending on your school, it will either average with our old grade or replace it.
