I’m a senior at Marion Senior High School, I’m also a soldier in the US Army Reserve, I have a GPA of nigh 2.7, My classes this year are…

Latin IV
AP/DC English 12
Chemistry
Algebra II
SAT Prep/ Finance
DC Geology
AP Government

My DC classes actually have me registered at Wytheville Community College.

My GPA 2.7 is based off the last known GPA, should go up when my senior year classes hit it.

I have applied to the Following…

William and Mary - Early Decision
James Madison University
George Mason University
Washington and Lee University
University of Alaska Anchorage

I have also taken the SAT, and I am registered for the December ACT, What are my chances in getting into these schools? I’m kind of panicking, as I don’t know if, or when I will get in, or if not, what will I do…

the only college i’m familiar with is william and mary, and i know that’s a reach for many people. You should do some research and try to find out what the usual stats for those schools are to see if you fit within the range. Try your best on the ACT if your SAT doesn’t work out. You just got to do research and find the best place for you.

William and Mary/No
James Madison/No
George Mason/match,reach
Washington and Lee/No

Your curriculum is not strong enough. Your GPA is low for even George Mason. Being a soldier in the reserves is impressive.

If Virginia is your state of preference. Consider:

Longwood
Radford
ODU

With a 2.7 you can’t count any as a safety. Best of luck. Consider that with your determination, you can do one year at a school that isn’t your first choice. Get your grades up, and transfer. You will do fine.

Longwood…no
Radford… even more indefinitely NO!
ODU…again NO!

I have made up my mind, and I’m very stressed and on the edge right now, If I don’t get accepted into any of the applied, I will simply pack up, and volunteer for Sinai. What about the University of Alaska Anchorage?

Roman…Uhhhh with a 2.7, you probably couldn’t cut it at any of the schools that you listed. You don’t have even a slight chance at any of the Virginia colleges on your list. You are not even “in” at the other colleges that I suggested as most of them post an average GPA now of over 3.0.

Oh, and I’m also a member of Quill and Scroll, International Honourary Society for High School Journalists, I partake in Track, I did a year of Cross Country, SWAC, the Scoolastic Bowl, I was the Secretary of the Chess Club, and I am a member of the FFA (3yrs) I was also a member of Scarlett Expressions Club (School Magazine)

Go to the Common Data Set of the Virginia colleges on your list. You will see the average GPA of accepted students as well as the average ACT/SAT’s. Ask your guidance counselor to provide you with information from your high school of admitted students’ stats to schools you are interested in.

The problem is your 2.7. That is not even a B average. William and Mary posts an average…average…GPA of 4.1. Washington and Lee is also very selective. James Madison University is about a 3.7/3.8 now. Even George Mason is around 3.3/3.4.

There are very scary stories on CC from students who reached too high and did not pay attention to any safety schools. You could very well end up with no place to go unless you set your sights to match your GPA, class ranking (with a 2.7, it’s not gonna be good) and SAT’s.

Seriously, I have no clue about Alaska. I know it’s cold there and Sarah Palin hails from that state. It may be a good way to get out of dodge for a year and get your grades up in order to transfer to a better school. The community college program in Virginia will take you to William and Mary or UVA if you cut it on their terms.

I’m not going to any bleeding community college, as I told someone here before, I will volunteer for a peacekeeping assignment in sinai if I don’t get into college.

Low GPA (is it weighted?), 1 mentioned AP course, no EC’s mentioned…

It’ll be a reach for the majority of the colleges you’ve mentioned (especially William and Mary). Even University of Alaska Anchorage requires a WGPA of around 3.2 or higher. Do you have any other info?
