Hey any seniors here?
As the oldest students that will go to prep schools, how to adjust the new environment? How to make new friends?
How to keep good grades while appling for colleges?

i m a senior

There are a lot of resources that help you adjust to the boarding school environment. At Hotchkiss (I am sure they have it everywhere, maybe different title), we have a study skill counsellor. I met with her once a week first year to get stuff on track. It helped a lot. Always seek for help. Your advisor is a good resource. USE IT. He/She will have valuable experience in course selection and planning, general course problems, and getting used to the boarding school life. Teachers…go find them for extra help, or just drop by their office and talk every once in a while…they are always willing to do that…in fact a lot of teachers complain about kids not meeting with them !!!

Friends come along. The good thing about these boarding schools are …these schools are very diversed. The Adcoms made sure of that before they select the class . You can find people who matches your interest or you know, just “click”. I think the only way you wont have friends is if you stay in front of your computer and stuck in your room playing games all day long.

Applying for colleges is not THAT time consuming. Yes, there will be a couple weekends that you have to write essays, or maybe your thanksgiving break; but its not as bad as most people say. It’s more about the bragging right “HEY I AM A SENIOR AND I HAVE SO MANY ESSAYS TO WRITE SO I AINT GOT NO LIFE NOW!! BOOYAH IN YOUR FACE!!”… Your college counsellor (the best part about BS) is going to be very helpful. They only work with a small number of kids. (At hotchkiss it’s around 25-30 kids per counsellor , and they are hiring a new one)…That’s a small number considering that this is all they do. MY college cousellor remembers my SAT scores, GPA, colleges that i visited and colleges that i applied to, pretty sick eh? Take the initiative, start meeting with the college advisor early…go in every other week and just have a little chat. They will get to know you and have a lot to tell the colleges when they call. Personally i find the college process helped my grades. At the beginning of 11th grade, I realized that I was screwed and that’s when i started studying a lot and making first honor roll. So it doesnt necessarily hurt your grades, take that as another motivating force.

Sorry, such a long post lol

I’d rather say thank you but not accept sorries…lol
In fact I will go to Hotchkiss as a senior soon! So your post is very useful and important to me!!! =)
