Hey guys. So I advise a elementary school newspaper. As a supplement to my application I mailed a issue of the newspaper, a reccomendation, and a cover letter. In my cover letter I had the address of the school, the admissions representative, and then at the bottom “Thank you… over the past couple of months Bates College has become…” However I forgot to change the Bates College on each of the other letters.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this. Should I just send a massive apology letter?
The two schools (besides Bates) that I mailed this too are my top choice schools so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Colleges get this stuff all the time. There was an interesting interview in a Princeton Review book a few years back with the admissions representative from Franklin W. Olin Engineering College. He said that he is always amused when he gets essays that talk mention Carnegie Mellon by accident. I doubt they will care in your situation. Admissions officers know that people are applying to several colleges.
I would email them and apologize just to let them know you’ve noted your error. I think the above poster has good information and advice, so take that into consideration as well.
Email them, and just apologize. You’re not the first and last person to do this, and I don’t think that they will look down on your for that. By the way, sending in the newspaper is a great idea! Very “creative” schools such as Bates LOVE to see that stuff. I hope that you get in there! My friend goes there and he absolutely loves it. All the best to you!
Basically what everyone else has said: email them and apologize. Say that you realized your error too late and that you are sorry about the mistake.
But I really don’t think you should fret about it. With students applying to numerous schools, things like this are bound to happen and colleges know that this happens. Good luck!
