so I know freshmen move into their resident halls on sept 20-21st…but classes start on the 25th. Im wondering, what are we supposed to do for 5 days…party?

I assume it takes 4-5 days to settle in.

for both guys and girls…the fraternities and sororities begin their rush this week…

it is definetly a time to settle in…you’ll meet in a group with the people in your dorm/floor (if you’re in a larger building) and talk about community guidelines and such. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday…I HIGHLY encourage that you go and find the buildings on campus where you will be attending classes. It will be a lot busier than you will think, especially with all of the bicycles on campus. In addition, go to the bookstore (the earlier in the morning the better) and find your textbooks (there are also used bookstores off campus that may have better prices). Mainly, just relax and focus on settling into the dorms. The quarter system will go by MUCH quicker than you imagine.

Best of luck.

Or if you’re living off-campus on your first year, you can enjoy a good amount of past memories in 5 full days of loneliness. :)!

Take cgui’s advice! It’s just a few days to get to know people and the campus. Take advantage of it!

Also remember…at the beginning of the year, EVERYONE is trying to make new friends (unless they all came from the same hs)…and really take advantage of that…cause soon after that, people aren’t quite as open as you think they would be. Or at least that was the impression that I got from people as it got harder to make new (good, long term, trustworthy) friends.

wow thanks this helps alot!

As I understand it there will be scheduled activities designed to help you meet other students as well. Even if you live off-campus I would advise you to participate in those.

The convocation is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 24 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. This year’s theme is “A Century of Doing What Matters” — in the region, the state, the nation and the world. Speakers chosen by the chancellor will represent faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community.

A reception in the Corin Courtyard and Sconyers Plaza, outside the Mondavi Center, will follow the convocation program.

Will there be food?

Free Food! =D

Yes!!!

get into the school spirit, aka don’t bother going to the festivals if you don’t want to, they’re not all that great. get to know your roommates and floormates and then go party, try to find your classes and get your books between move in and class start too

ummmmmm, 5 days of straight partying?? whose gonna complain

It’s to get the freshman’s guard down so when the actual classes start, everyone is screwed…right? :P

We’re already screwed from the super long summer break. lol

you’ll be tired at the end of the week and excited for classes to start, and then excited to party on the weekend, and so the cycle begins

quite the vicious cycle

vicious indeed
