September 2010 ACT Science Discussion

I know what you are talking about. It said dry air and it did say H2. I agree. But it did not say that it would form water. You made that implication. Dry air is not the same thing as PURE OXYGEN. Hence H2 and dry air doesn’t form water, necessarily

Ahh ****. If I got that one wrong did I get most wrong in that entire section?

I think trial 7 was choice D, which was incorrect.

Also the question had this word in it: “greatest…Relative humidity”
the answer was trial 6. Only trial 6 had 100% RH, which is the GREATEST. Trial 7, even if it did form water, would not have anything higher than 100%

What about the one with “Mg”? it was constant in trials 1 and 2 only? right?

Did anybody find the science section harder than usual? I did so much worse on timing myself than on any of the practice tests. 10 questions unanswered/random guess compared to 4 at my worse.

@nicole i think in experiment 2 it wasn’t but i can’t really remember

it was only experiment 2 (the mm^3 one). Constant in all the other trials.

@101mutts, I had the same thing…I timed well on the practice tests too, but I had to guess on about 10 this time too…

^dude i agree… the science section was way harder than i anticipated… i did fine on pretty much all my practice tests and then today was like… wow

just a comment on the 100 % question. I don’t think it could be 25/75 % because to determine those, you would need to know punnet squares. Doesn’t the science not require knowledge like this?

I don’t remember the wording of the question, it was number 12 though. I was pretty stumped. Does anyone remember this question at all?
(it wasn’t the mesh one or the genetics)

39.

Did you guys get B?
2HCL –> MgCl2 and some stuff. It was the same as A but balanced

^Yes. Was 35 a B?

RAlec114 I think it was 2HCL + Mg —> Mgcl2 + H2 or something of that nature.

B? I hope it was B.

Equator vs. North pole

North pole had higher <forgot what=“” value=“” was=“” being=“” compared=“”>
right?</forgot>

Upright vs. inverse

After turning it upside down for one hour… plastids would be at the bottom for like 70-100%?

^Yes, again. Was 35 B? LOL

RAlec144, I agree with everything you just typed. Anyone object?

Mesh bags… any chance it was A, carbon to escape? I did this one in 5 seconds… (was running out of time). Right before it mentioned mesh bags it said that the soil would be measured for carbon after they are put in mesh bags, so mesh bags contain the carbon?

Umm…I dont know if this has been discussed yet, but what was the answer for the formula of the reaction of Mg + HCl?

Was it Mg + 2HCl
or Mg + HCl?

I had the 2 HCl at first, then changed it to Mg + HCl
