@chillkitty Hold on, nevermind. A 27 is a 95!! Congrats… Lol. They have 2 different sheets for Writing…WTF?
Anyways, that means my percentile is 98.
@dawsonsproul a 24 is an 88 percentile.
I NEED MY MULTIPLE CHOICE ANSWERS. I DON’T EVEN HAVE THOSE YET. WHAT IS THIS
It’s BS is what it is!
What happens if we’re applying early decision and writing scores come WAY after November 1st?
@seniorlife555 Well universities allow you to send it as soon as you get it, it’s not your fault. But some universities like University of Maryland, there’s no early decision. In fact the deadlines for everything including normal admissions is Nov.1st.
This was one of my primary universities, so I’m extremely disappointed that I can’t apply due to no comp scores.
Would like to quickly chime in a comment: http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/NormsChartSTEMELAWriting-Web2015-16.pdf
If you look at the bottom, it says the STEM scores were based on a sample size of 5 million +.
The writing/ELA scores were the result of “one special study.” Hmmm…

I havent gotten my writing scores yet! It’s been 1.5 months and my October SAT Subject tests scores will also be out in 2 days! Has anybody contacted ACT?
@harishgunner @seniorlife555 My son was one of the many students who received the quality assurance message, just received his MC scores about a week ago, and is still waiting for the writing score. I have called and emailed ACT. All my calls received the exact same answer, " the scores are usually posted within 2-8 weeks…" It is as if they are trying to cover up that they are doing a ‘study’ of the scores since this is the first time the new essay has been implemented. Just last week, my son emailed ACT, and was told that, because he his MC scores were ready so early (what???), he should have his writing score in October.
I think they are being very sketchy because they are trying to avoid a lawsuit. They probably think they are covered as long as they post scores within the 8 week timeframe. However, according to the email my son received, scores have been ready, but not posted due to “quality assurance.” I believe that translates to the new study.
They should have been better prepared for this by NOT withholding the scores of seniors who are so desperately awaiting these scores for college admissions. I don’t know guys…if this causes anyone to miss a deadline, I would seriously consider a lawsuit.
IMO, it would have been better to change the writing in the spring, when EA and other deadlines weren’t looming. Also, if they would send the composites, without the writing, that would also be helpful. D sent in an app on Oct. 1 (not EA or ED – a regular application with rolling admission – but Oct. 1 was a deadline for this school to be considered for a particular scholarship) and her counselor scrambled to write the rec on time, but it has been hung up because of this. Didn’t expect this to take so long. She took the ACT in the spring, but the Sept. scores are significantly better, and those are the ones she wants to submit.
@tan075 – priority deadline for Maryland is Nov. 1, but looks like regular deadline for U.S. incoming freshmen is in Jan.
@mstee Same situation here. My son sent June scores, which weren’t as good as September. With his September scores, he qualified for a huge scholarship, but has missed that deadline.
You are right! They should have done this in the spring.
@mstee I’m international, so no chance ):
My son is also waiting on writing score and is recruited athlete. He keeps saying his school requires you send in all scores/tests taken so he has to wait…can’t just send in SATs instead of ACT.
Spoke with ACT rep and she indicated they should be received by Nov6th. Great…that’s a bit late…
This is just wrong on so many levels. These kids have enough stress! ACT just added more.
Just an FYI for anyone who orders a priority report to be sent to a college. What ACT submits is an unofficial paper copy, which most colleges will not consider. Just found this out today when I called them to see why the college hasn’t received the priority report I ordered 3 weeks ago. No mention of that when I ordered the report. X(
@MellowMutt doesn’t your college accept electronic report?
Online, they say the reports are submitted electronically, but I found out that equates to receiving a CD in this case:-(
Hope that’s not the case for my son too. The rep assured me it being electronic would help expedite the delay, but who knows at this point…
Has anyone not gotten their writing scores yet? I got my MC three weeks ago and am still waiting for writing scores.
