Has anyone taken an undergrad class taught by Professor Khrushchev? How is he?

He seems to teach only one seminar per academic year, mostly attended by juniors and seniors. This is what the most recent Critical Review report has to say about the class:

“Post-Soviet States From the Past into the Future” examines in historical context the emergence of the new post-Soviet states from the disintegrating USSR, the development of their foreign policies, and the evolution of their mutual relations in the political, economic, security, and environmental spheres. The course devotes special attention to the functioning of the Community of Independent States and other multilateral institutions. Enrollment is by permission of the instructor.
Students praised Professor Khrushchev as an effective, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable lecturer. One student described his as a “grandfatherly lecturer,” and several respondents agreed that his personal stories and anecdotes were the most enjoyable and memorable portions of his lectures. Professor Khrushchev actively engaged his students throughout classes and welcomed questions and discussion. Many noted that he was very accessible outside of class and gave meaningful and constructive feedback to students.
Required coursework for the class included one in-class presentation and a 12-15 page paper on the same topic. The readings for the course were only recommended (none were required), but students agreed that they gave good background to topics covered in presentations and papers. Class members averaged between 5 and 15 hours per week for coursework, with a sharp increase for the final paper.
Course participants urged future students to take Professor Khrushchev’s course. Many agreed that his personal experiences and insights were invaluable. When asked if participants would recommend the course, one student responded: “Do you like hearing stories from your grandpa? Your answer to the first question is your answer to the second.”

Is this Critical Review report available for all classes, and can the information be found online?

The Critical Review is available for any classes where the professors distribute it and there are enough students for the responses to be meaningful. However, it’s only available on campus or with a valid student login. I’m not sure if incoming freshmen can use it yet, but it’s worth checking (a quick google search should get the link).

I don’t believe it’s open to incoming freshmen yet - someone tried on another thread last week and it didn’t work. Just keep on trying.

When you look at classes in mocha ([Welcome - Mocha](Loading...)), click on the professor’s name. It’s a link that first takes you to the sign-in page, then to the Critical Review.

The CR used to be open to everyone, but is now only viewable with a log-in code. I wish I understood why it can’t be read by everyone.

For parents, if your kid gives you their log-in code, then you can look at the CR.
