serious dillema: need help fast.

So, I’m in a cc, and i have two W’s already, and I’d like to withdraw from 3 other classes. The reason for that is because the professors are making jew jokes. I tried switching classes, but they won’t let me. I don’t want to report them either. Would it matter in transferring to another college if i drop these courses, and explain why i did in the application

um are you kidding me?! where do you go, Redneck Community College in the middle o’ Louisiana? Report that, no one should have to deal with that. If they don’t believe you, get other students to also report the professors…explain to your advisor that you don’t like having Professor Hitler teach you and I’m sure they’ll let you out. Sorry about your situation.

I don’t think you should drop all those classes you may end up on probation, because don’t you have to pass a certain amount of classes each semester? You should get through the semester then try to transfer.

whaaaat? unbelievable! don’t put up with that, i def think you should be reporting that

you should certainly report them. theres no reason anyone should have to drop a course because he/she feels so offended by the professors. it would be hard to convince a college that you’re applying for transfer to that 3 classes at your current school all had anti-semitic teachers. the only way you could prove it was by reporting the teachers and having them dealt with by your current school.

Nice job, stargazer. Combat stereotype jokes by insulting other stereotypes, well played.

whoa, chill out. is it a sterotype that rednecks are racist? I thought that was practically the definition of a redneck…an ignorant person, usually a hillbilly. I take the back the Louisiana part…sorry if I offended anyone from Louisiana.

I’m a redneck. Not racist. Not a hillbilly. Not ignorant.

But to the topic: I think a new university may have problems believing you. One professor, sure. Two, maybe. But three? And you never said anything about it? That seems really out there. I’m sure it’s a difficult thing to do . . . but you have to deal with it.

Obviously, you have a lot of pride in your religion. And the Jewish people have been persecuted for hundreds of years. It’s time someone stood up to the anti-semitic minority. They do a lot of harm, and although it may not seem worthy of making a big deal about it. If it’s making you want to leave, that’s a huge statement. Aren’t you sick of being portrayed as spineless? Stand up, use your voice, your rights, and your religion to fight this injustice.

***Do not withdraw! *** Stop taking a passive stance with your education. These teachers deserve to be reported if you believe that you want to withdraw from classes. What you should do is write a letter or even make an appointment with the dean and talk about the experiences. There’s no chance that withdrawals from classes will make your academic profile look good in any way.

Report. Don’t let professors make you back down. You pay for them to teach, not listen to their opinions.

I don’t believe you and neither will the colleges, I’m afraid. I definitely understand if you have a professor making these insensitive comments… but the likelihood of THREE professors in one semester ALL making Jew jokes? I call BS. I don’t care what part of the US you are in (I’m from the South, so I know not everybody is racist), the likelihood of three professors at once all making jokes at the same minority group is outrageously small. Plus the fact that you already have 2 Ws, I don’t think any university at all is going to believe it for one second. If it is true that somehow all three of your professors are making these comments, bring a tape recorder to class and catch them in the act and report them to the school administration. I would certainly not withdraw from the classes. The administration will either relieve them of their teaching duties (depending on the severity, and if you have proof) or get them to at least stop making the comments in class. Either way you win. The damage has (supposedly) already been done to you so there’s no point in dropping out.

I have to agree with MagiTF and others who have said that having 5 Ws on your transcript with a claim that 3 were due to racial/ethnic/religious slurs by your professors is an unlikely story for a transfer school to buy.

If offenses by professors make it impossible for you to sit by, I would have to think you are not alone in this. Either go to the administration on your own or join together with one or more classmates to bring the problem to the administration’s attention.

Ok once again I apologize if I have offended anyone from Louisiana (really nice state, sorry y’all keep getting hit with those hurricanes), rednecks (because they have feelings too) and racists (because they’re people just like us).

And OP even though it does sound like a stretch, if it’s actually happening **REPORT IT ** sitting here and typing won’t do anything.
