‘if your financial resources do not cover expenses for your full degree program, how do you plan to meet expenses beyond the coming year?’

My answer: “Quit school!!! DUH~ what am i supposed to do? -_-”

I think I didn’t really get the question…

Can anybody help me…t.t

I don’t remember that question. On what part of the app is it?

financial statement… :)

I like your honesty, however, Rice is asking because they give out seriously good scholarships. If you can present a good “cause” for their help, then tell it. They’re giving you this opportunity.

Is it part of the supplement??

Are you an international applicant?

CalcuimRich: “No. this has nothing to do w/ the common app supplement. It is a question in the financial statement which, as far as i know, every student should submit”

blackeyedsusan: “Yes i am an international applicant.”

:):)

lol i was trying to finish up filling out this form but had to think about this too. i thought some of their questions are just silly, i mean, that’s what financial aid is for, isn’t it?

oh and for the chart that we have to put in source of support, what if i couldn’t get a total of 50000 dollars? cuz again, i’m applying for financial aid, and i was hoping the aid could fill the gap? will the admissions officers throw my application away if they see that i cannot accumulate 50000 dollars? even if i’m applying for FA?

im totally with you mangomunky t.t

These are questions for international students only and are asked because “Rice University will offer need-based financial aid to a limited number of international undergraduate applicants entering Fall 2010”.
If you cannot attend without substantial funds from Rice you should say so in your application. I don’t think it will disadvantage your application. If you are good enough to receive a large award you may even have a better shot at getting the money if you make it clear you cannot attend without it. Good luck.

thanks MSmom&dad, that’s exactly what i was thinking :)

ok. I think I am missing something. I did not realize there was a financial form to submit. I am going to check right now but could you give me detailed info?

ok, never mind. did not read the post right above. So I guess this is only for international students…

hey guys, i have another question. what exactly is projected amount on the source of support chart?

i emailed an admissions officer a while back, and her response doesn’t really make much sense:“Projected amount is an amount you’re not certain of but may be guessing about an amount.”

projected amount means the estimated amount that there will be for that specific group (parents contribution, needed for scholarship, etc). So if your parents can pay 5,000 a year, your projected amount will be 5000, its an estimate because you never know what can happen.

okay, so it refers to the amount of money there might be available for my tuition, not how much saving my parents in their bank account right? can i put merit scholarship that i haven’t gotten as part of the projected amount, too?

do i have to be capable of paying 50000 dollars to have a chance of being accepted? even if i’m applying for finaid?

thanks so much for your answer cowking15
Rice’s FA office won’t be open until next monday, so i figured it would be too late by then.

Being able to pay 50k does not help your chances of being accepted. They accept a lot of people, knowing that they’re going to have to help them get a finaid package of some sort together.

@ohsnapitskira yea, I know that’s the case for most applicants. The thing is I’m an international applicant, and Rice is far from being need-blind to us. It never occurred to me that I had to show proof of having $50000 solely for first-year tuition until admissions officer told me that if my projected amount+assure amount don’t total $50000, “there’s a strong possibility that you’re not financially able to attend” which got me worried that they wouldn’t even look at my application because of my financial status though I clearly state that I will be needing FA.
