Service trip to Uganda as one of 5 main activities?

Hey guys…
Since MIT only lets you post 5 main activities, I had a question about whether I should post this in there: this past summer, I went to Uganda for about 4 weeks on a service trip to build a secondary school for girls with a small school group, and though it was in the summer, we had to fundraise/publicize for money that we could use for construction materials, books, etc… for the girls. I’m going again this next summer on a slightly different trip, though still with my school. Since I will once again have to do stuff during the year, should I put it down as a real activity or just make sure to highlight it as a summer activity and then expand on it in the additional information section? I’m really big on service (over 450 hours), so this is obviously one of the most important things I’ve ever done. Just wanted to ask your opinions on what to do. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, there’s a separate section for summer activities, which sounds like a good place for it. In the end, though, it doesn’t really matter where you put it, since it will be seen anyway. And I highly recommend describing it in more detail in an essay somewhere, since it sounds like such an awesome thing that was so important to you.

I agree with Laura. If you feel like it’s one of your five most important/favorite/beloved activities, you should totally feel free to put it in the activities section, then expand in additional information. If you’d rather put it in summer activities, that would be fine too.

The important thing is that you highlight something that really makes you happy.
