Seton Hall University Fall 2024 Admissions

Did he have a major or program he was trying to get into?

I wonder if Seton Hall is dealing with the same thing so many other Universities are? A major uptick in applications.

Business (Marketing). I was also thinking since we are NJ residents, they were sending out marketing literature with application fee waivers, and maybe are tracking interest that way. Who knows. I think I’m more upset with them asking for my S24 for an interview while at the same time putting him on the waitlist. This is my third time at the rodeo, thankfully my last. :joy:

Sorry it turned out this way. Though I would think waitlist now would be better than a deferral. Theoretically he would be at the top of this list. Is this their #1 school?

Just putting this here since we all like to read other’s situations:

Son applied on 11/11, and was accepted shortly thereafter. He picked Physics/Engineering as his major choices when applying, even tho he has no idea what he wants to study/do. He only applied because I “made him” since we had a fee waiver.

3.6 GPA but many APs. 28 ACT.
JV Swim team for 4 years.
Lifeguard.
Zero leadership positions.
Some volunteer hours, but not a ton.

He was never contacted for an interview.

Yesterday he received snail mail packet offering $98,500 in scholarships over 4 years. Wowza. :flushed: That got my attention!

The chances of his accepting this are probably one in a million. He wants a much bigger school, and we are farrrrrrrrrr from religious. I only even know the name of this school from working on my March Madness brackets. And son has been mis-pronouncing it as SEH-ton Hall this whole time. LOL. (We are obviously out of state).

But that scholarship has me looking into this school a bit more. Looks like it has a great reputation
!

Anyway
he has not heard back yet from any of his other schools. So, good luck and much patience to us all as we wait
!

We are also from OOS. We did visit and it didn’t feel too religious (we aren’t religious either). The Chapel is very beautiful but our guide didn’t even go in. I got the feeling he wasn’t religious either.

If you have a chance you might go take a tour. We were impressed. I think my daughter really likes that it is only a short ride on the train into NYC. That could be great for internships too.

The only real negative I have heard is that the campus feels empty on the weekend as many kids go home. My daughter’s response was that she would find someone and go into the city. She loves NYC.

No, not likely to lose sleep over. While most of the schools he targeted are located out of state, it was nice to apply to something other than Rutgers for in-state consideration.

I’m filling out the CSS profile for another private school. It * looks like Seton Hall requires the FAFSA and not the CSS. Can anyone confirm?

*edited for clarity

You mean it does require the FAFSA? Yes, I am pretty sure I got an email from them recently to do our FAFSA. It wasn’t one of the CSS schools on my daughter’s list as far as I can remember. I am going to go see if I can find that email.

This was part of the email:

At Seton Hall, submitting your FAFSA is essential and your FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after it opens for this year. This will enable us to make sure we provide you with the maximum scholarship and financial aid awards. So, after you apply to Seton Hall University, we also ask that you submit the FAFSA by January 1, or as soon as possible after that date.

If you are not interested in scholarships or financial aid or are not eligible to file the FAFSA, you can waive the FAFSA requirement by indicating this on your application for admission. If you have already submitted your application and you wish to update your preference, you can do so by emailing thehall@shu.edu.

Thanks! I just edited my comment above. Looks like they only want the FAFSA.

Has anyone done the honors application? My D24 is struggling with 5 - 1500 word prompts!

S24 has considered about doing it, but since it doesn’t offer extra scholarship, he has been putting it off

I think my daughter is going to forget it. She has had several honors applications from different schools but says this one is the most labor intensive.

I haven’t looked into SH’s honor app, but like your daughter, S24 has been focusing on applying to other school’s Honor Colleges where they are less work but also give him aid. Two birds one stone!

Son was accepted with a video but where exactly is the letter of acceptance?

Congratulations! The letter of acceptance will post in your son’s portal within a day or so after receiving the video. Eventually they will follow up with one in the mail.

My S24 was accepted this past fall 3+3 Biology/Physician Assistant program with a very nice merit package. We are OOS and attending the open house in February. We did visit last spring break, but she wants to revisit now that she knows she’s in so we can also visit the medical campus. She thinks she has it narrowed down to 2-3 different programs so we’ll see!

Congrats to everyone!

Anyone know if they have an admitted student day? We did Pirate Day Open House in the fall, but was looking for something different.

Hmm
I think that my DS24 is going to need a bit more of a push. Seton Hall was his backup. He recently found out he got a full tuition scholarship, so all of a sudden it moved up on his list. When we went to Pirate Day in the fall the campus was so quiet, that it was hard to compare to some of the other big schools he is interested in. I was hoping he could sit in on a class, and meet with faculty and students - get a real taste of Seton Hall.

Has anyone had any luck on getting this type of personalized visit?
