Severe Weather - Plains States

Prayers going out to the people of Greensburg, Kansas.

Fox News has been doing quite a bit of coverage of the situation. The devastation in Greensburg is unbelievable.

More severe weather is a possibility for this evening according to news reports.

It does look like the entire town was bulldozed. I was amazed by the spirit and resiliency of those people being interviewed.
I do hope they have found everyone by now. What a sad day.

Seriously, Berurah, I am hoping this is very far away from where you are…this looks really bad; my heart goes out to those people and those traveling in the region…

I just saw a posting from B from this morning, so we know she missed it. What an awful situation. I hadn’t heard anything about it, so I looked it up—it looks like everything just blew to pieces. Scary stuff…can’t imagine how you’d begin to pick yourself up and restart.

Hey y’all~

Thanks for the positive thoughts for those in the midwest states. Greensburg is about 1.5 hours west of us. The pictures of the devastation there have blown us away. Just unbelievable and so, so sad for those folks. Greensburg is a very small town, about 1400 people, and many of the people there are elderly. My heart really goes out to these people who have lost so much.

Ironically, this very nearly touched our family. My hubster was out west last night, just outside of Greensburg. He headed for home at about 8:45, and I believe that the tornado came though about an hour later. Fate is such a strange thing…

Many parts of Kansas are expecting more storms and violent weather. We’ll definitely be listening for the tornado sirens tonight!

~berurah

Seriously, {{{{hugs}}}}, Beruah, I am so glad that everyone in your family is fine.

Was about to Shout Out to berurah, but I see you’re here. Glad you escaped, kiddo. Our thoughts are with your fellow Kansans coping with the devastation.

northeastmom and jmmom~

OH, thanks so much y’all!! It really feels great to be thought of (and {{{{{hugged}}}}}!!!)

Well, we just all climbed up from the basement…our tornado sirens went off just a little bit ago, but I think the tornado that was spotted was in the southwestern part of our country and we’re in the southeastern part. Looks like it may be a long day, weather-wise though…

The front page of our local paper was all about Greensburg…just VAST destruction of a whole town. :frowning: Here is the link if anyone is interested:

Sending thoughts and prayers to all of those who lost so very much…

Again, thanks so much for the thoughts. Hopefully we can stay out of the path of anything dangerous.

berurah, Very glad to hear that you and your family are OK in the aftermath of these killer tornadoes. I can’t believe that your H was right there an hour before all this. So scary. It must be quite nervewracking when those sirens go off and everyone has to go down to the basement. STAY SAFE!!

berurah~so glad to hear that you and your family are alright!!! (Has S1 arrived home yet?) Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!!

{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}} coming your way!!! :)

Berurah, we were out and about and saw the news on a restaurant TV, and I thought of you right away. Glad to know your family is fine!

roshke, irish, and renee~

Thank y’all SO much for the caring thoughts! We sure appreciate 'em! irish, S1 arrived home yesterday afternoon. At the time there were some gusty winds, but apparently the flight wasn’t too bad. We didn’t get the level of severe weather here in south central Kansas that they got a bit west of us.

D2 needed a certain pair of shoes for an upcoming pops concert, so we drove into Wichita. On the way back, the skies looked pretty threatening, so I think we’ll stick around home for the rest of the day. Tornadoes can spring up with little warning, and they can be very unpredictable!

Fingers crossed for no more tornado sirens today!

~b.

Just remember: Click your heels together and repeat “There’s no place like home” :)

WILL DO!!! (Just as soon as we move back to Texas… ) No plans to do that, btw, but hey, I can dream, right? :)

Gotta love that “Wizard of Oz” touch cause you ARE in Kansas, berurah! Having lived in the midwest for many years I can understand the fear of tornadoes. But the worst one I ever experienced (hearing that “train” noise as it approached) was when we lived in Georgia!!

Hope the worst is over now, and so glad you have S1 home for even a short visit!! {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}

Glad you’re okay, Berurah! Missed this – was in Hawaii for a few days :).

Thanks, Roshke, for pointing me this direction. Glad to hear Berurah’s entourage was not directly affected.

Sending my thoughts to Kansas to Berurah and family! We are thinking of you and glad you and yours are safe and that your Dukie is also with you safe and sound.

berurah-
I found this on the front page link to your Witchita Eagle:

and this:

Glad to see they are still reporting all the IMPORTANT news in addition to the tornado devastation :D

irish, mstee, Faline, and binx~

Thanks SO much for the thoughts! I think we’ve had the least of the bad stuff here in south central KS. The folks in Topeka are ready to build an ark, and of course out a bit west of us, well, you know what happened there! :frowning: We had the one set of tornado sirens on Sunday, but other than that, we’ve gotten off pretty light, thank goodness.

Faline, as I was watching the Fox coverage of Greensburg last night, I felt so badly that my eyes kept getting drawn to the t-shirt that the minister from Greensburg was wearing. It was a DUKE BLUE DEVILS shirt!!! Also, couldn’t help but appreciate the irony of a MINISTER wearing a DEVILS shirt! So, even in the tiny town of Greensburg, I guess there are a few Duke fans…

jym, welcome to the ever-informative Wichita Eagle. rofl I guess that it needs SOMETHING to fill the time between the state BOE elections when the evolution standards flip flop with regularity and the incessant protests at Dr. Tiller’s office. I was actually pretty horrified by the duck story…what a messed up kid sigh. That particular story even made CNN.
