Does anyone who attends SFS know which professors are on the admissions committee? Which parts of the/ departments of the SFS are represented when decisions are made?

It could be anybody…and its not something that is advertised.

well i know it’s not advertised, but does anyone who goes there/ works in the admissions office happen to know a few of the professors who read apps

i mean is it something they do for extra$ or do people like Ms. Albright actually read apps?

Well, I kind of hope if anyone knew they wouldn’t say…it’s not like under lock and key, but if you’re a student on the committee you keep it on the down low…out of respect for the applicants’ privacy and to make sure all admissions related info goes through the admissions office ( i.e. no mixed messages).

I mean think about it. Prospective students and their families are crazy ( I say that lovingly)…you can find professor email addresses online, and students on facebook.

also, I have no idea if they get extra money…professors do all sorts of University stuff like sitting on committees and such besides teaching…and as for Albright, she’s a “Mortara Distinguished of professor of Diplomacy” or some such thing, which is different from your average professor so her role on campus is different…i.e. I doubt she is reading your app:)

yeah i totally know what you mean about crazy families… hahah

i just wanted to be able to but a name to the sometimes intangible admissions committee

i know someone who went there and she told me that every person picks based on their own criteria… but it is terrifying to know that sometimes only one person looks at them and defers/ rejects them

it is hard to understand that psyche… but sometimes i think that the well qualified people who say they got deferred probably got deferred because gtown’s fear that they won’t matriculate… and those who were deferred who send letters have better chances rd because they know they’ll matriculate

but then again who knows and i surely can’t claim to know
the only thing i wanted to know was if the differnt parts of the department are well covered: asian studies, arab studies, etc.
