SFSU to UCB/UCD

Hello there! So I was an out of state admittant to SFSU for their journalism program but recently switch to zoology. So now I want to transfer to a school better suited (and better overall.) I know UCD is the best for pre vet or whatever but most likely I will go to an out of state grad school anyway. I’m just wondering if anyone knows of any successful transfers from this school? They are not listed on assist.org for UCB.

As of now my stats are **** (but I had a family emergency–stepmother diagnosed with Multiple Scolrosis) and so I took a lot of time off of school.

3.07 GPA
Working part time at on-campus cafe
took 12 units fall 2008, 17 spring 2009, 6 summer 2009

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey man, i go to SFSU too an will be applying for UC’s this coming fall as well. I dont want to get your hopes up or anything but it honestly is REALLY hard to go from a CSU to a UC. I talked to a few admission counselors and they too agree that it is really hard. i have a 3.53 and im doubting if that will be enough. But best of luck to you. I say you might have a 20% chance at at UCD but no chance at UCB

Your chances are slim for UCB because you are transferring from another 4 year and you have a pretty low GPA. You should try both but it’s going to be very very very hard.

It’s all about GPA and major… Your GPA might be passable for UCD if you get straight A’s next quarter, but no chance at Cal. It doesn’t help that you are coming from a CSU, but GPA is going to be the largest influence in your app.

Not going to happen. UCLA had something like 20 out of state transfer apps from 4 year institutions. 0% got accepted and many were from IVY leagues with 4.0’s UCB is even worse. Full priority goes to in state Freshmen apps, in state CC apps, then international, then out of state CC apps, THEN if at all 4 year transfers. They are dead last on the priority list.

Should also mention that most of your CSU units will not transfer to a UC.

A friend of mine is going to UCD from SFSU, he made it in with around a 3.5 for political science if i recall correctly, its going to be a tough process but you can do it.

its not that your units wont transfer, its just about picking the right classes. pick VERY GENERAL Classes like Bio 100 and Geo 100 Chem 100 History 113 and 114. classes that is offered at all schools. just be careful when u select classes. Classes such as leisure and recreation wont transfer.
