I’ve never worn it or thought of wearing it, but I saw an ad for Shapermint before a youtube video and I am really tempted to try it. It looked just great - overweight women with rolls around their waists pulled it on and looked much, much better. Some of these women were much more overweight than I am. I would love to instantly be slimmer around the waist. This garment came up high to under the bra. It’s supposed to be very comfortable and not roll down. It does not have legs.
I’ve been reading reviews on this brand and others, trying to make a decision.
Has anyone used this or any other brand of shapewear?
Ugh! There is a row of thumbnails of shapewear garments right below this comment box!
I haven’t worn that brand, but I do wear Spanx when I have an important occasion or I’m wearing something knit and clingy. I’m very slim (106 pounds) but I do have a “muffin top” due simply to age and gravity. There’s no shame in wearing a garment that “smooths” everything. Ya’ gotta do what ya’ gotta do!
I got my Shapermint order yesterday. It seems pretty good, although I haven’t actually worn it, only tried on. The only problem was I couldn’t really get it pulled up all the way to my bra line in back. I’m not sure how to do that without help.
My husband is almost never around when I am getting dressed, so I will have to figure it out. There is a bulge at the top if it’s not pulled up (less than my usual bulges, but still…). @NYMomof2 you would have to pull them up and down, which is no small feat. I intend to wear them over panties, etc., and smooth panties helped them go on. I do not have a great figure; I am 40 lb overweight and have extra skin from having twins. I never wear shapewear, just try to wear clothes that flatter as much as possible, but I wanted some for occasions and nothing I’ve tried so far fit the bill. I think the Shapermint will work pretty well for me.
I also use spanx to smooth things out. I get one size larger than what I really wear. I’m not looking for a girdle…I’m looking for smoother. Works perfectly, is comfortable, and easy to get on…and off.
The spanx I have have hooks or snaps so you go to the bathroom. I don’t wear them often and I think I need the next size up having been at a low point when I bought them.
I use Spanx to smooth out my hips, I love them! I also have a pair that is more for the tummy. I also have a pair of Thong Spanx! Yep, holds the tummy and smooths hips with no panty lines. I only wear them with my coated jeans since they are thicker.
@BunsenBurner, that is really pretty, and it’s on sale! I’d been thinking of the high-waisted shorts style, but this one might work. I would wear it at work under dresses and skirts. No problem with bathroom visits.
Too bad - on sale but not in stock.
I’m also thinking of going to Nordstrom; I had a bra fitting from them several years ago and, for the first time, I had bras that fit. I bought a couple from them and found more of the same style online at lower prices. They seem to have a huge collection of shapewear.
Definitely try Nordstrom! The biggest issue with dress shapewear is riding up. The SP dress does not, but many do, in my experience. At Nordstrom, you will be able to try it on under a dress and sit and move in it. I got my shaper at a boutique (Charmelle in Palo Alto), and that is what I did, encouraged by the salesperson.
@NYMomof2 - I think it runs on the smaller side, but do check the return policy. It is probably shipping from Herroom… let me check. See if you can exchange or return it for free.
Check Saks! They carry it - alas, it is not on sale there, but I bet you can try it on in the store.
@BunsenBurner - thank you! I have been checking stores. Saks carries it but it is not in any stores near her. Nieman-Marcus carries it and I could pick it up in a store in 2-3 days. That is probably my best bet.
I don’t wear shapewear, mostly because it’s terribly uncomfortable and not worth the bother. I bought a few items after my children were born, and I felt like a trussed turkey. Now, I’d rather wear more body skimming clothes than something tight and so fitted that requires shapewear. I’m toned and in good shape for someone in her late 50s, but my body is far from flawless - I’d rather wear something looser than try to pack into something that is uncomfortable. To be honest, I have more than a dozen Commando thongs and some good bras that I wear under almost everything without panty bulges or anything showing.
My question is, aren’t these shaper garments horribly warm under clothes? It’s not usually cold where I live most of the year. I am pretty much past hot flashes and sweats, but still have these very occasionally. I can picture myself in a dress looking smooth and slimmer and all, then sweating like a heck make-up sliding off my face. Somehow that counteracts any sexiness gained in my mind.
I’m always freezing in restaurants and banquet halls which is the only place I wear my shapewear. I thought it would be horribly uncomfortable, but really you forget about it once it’s on.
@NorthernMom61 , I’ve not worn any that go up on the torso, but the other kind are not hot… The material seems fairly thin but holds you in. I’ve worn under form fitting dress in 95 degree heat.
I wear a one piece that goes to mid-thigh under knit dresses…they remind me of how slips helped knits glide over and not show every lump. I buy them a size larger because I don’t want too much compression.
