Seeing everyone’s applications will be finished and submitted by tomorrow, I thought I would make a thread where people can share a) what they put in their box and b) what perspective they thought they could contribute to Rice. Should be interesting.
I put a Rubik’s cube and talked about my curiosity in all aspects of my life (probably way overdone I am thinking but it is honest).

I pasted in a picture of a baby wallaby (only somewhat related, my dad’s Australian and I’m a citizen but that’s about it) because I completely forgot about the signature page until the last minute. It is cute though…

My essay was about my passion for science and music and how I try to balance my analytical/critical intellect and creativity when thinking about new ideas. A bit of a stretch, but I am a pretty typical white female living in the same suburban town for almost my entire life so I don’t have much else to talk about.

I put pictures of food cravings that I can’t eat because of a diet restriction. xD

And my perspective essay was probably really formulaic and boring and overused… basically, I talked about like academic passion, leadership in community, and then a little bit of personal stuff. I don’t know. You have to read it to get it.

Hmm, well my perspective essay was on an experience I had studying/living in Spain and how it led me to see us all as one :)

I put this in my box:
http://i5.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/y161/brittnayy16x/ricepic.jpg</a>
(sized to fit, of course)

i wear ribbons in my hair all the time, and i have a big drawer full of bows. so i tied five different colored ribbons into bows and taped them into the box. who knows, haha.

nice idea brittnayy16x, that’s hawt

yeah i put pics of tony romo, jason witten, and T.O. in the box with the words “DALLAS COWBOYS” just to remind them who has the best football team in TX.

for the essay i talked about how i have traveled to difft. places around the world, grown up in a very diverse community, as well as my love for playing sports, and my eclectic music interests (i.e. classical music on the piano, and AC/DC and Van Halen in the car stereo).

WOW! all of these essays/boxes sound amazing. intimidated much?

but i really did like my box.
it had the MSF logo, a guy flying on a parachute (because i’ve always wanted to do that), a stanza from an ee cummings poem, and the word peace!..and somehow it all fit :)

and my essay was basically about me being asian. cliche, i know. but i tried to mix it up…hahaha.

anyways;;; goodluck guys!

Everyone so creative ^^
In my box, I put a picture of our Latin club T-shirt that has the phrase “Latin Kicks!” below a map of Italy. Do you get it? lol
For the essay, I talked about how I developed a culture-specific syndrome possibly from living in a foreign country, oh but I’m not like crazy though so don’t worry…

For my essay, I wrote about learning from the 2nd graders I teach at religious school.
For the box, I made it a final jeopardy question under the catagory of “Perspective Students” The clue was all these tidbits about me and then I wrote “Who is [insert my name here]?”

For the box, I drew a basketball going in a hoop because I love playing basketball. I think everyone beat me in creativity on the box

On my essay, I wrote about how my religion encourages vegeterianism. I wrote about how I continue not to eat meat today whereas many other people are scared to pursue their beliefs because they believe it will prevent them from fitting in with the crowd at school. I also included that my religion plays a big role in my life.

efs001… I hope you wrote “Prospective Students,” for your sake.

In my box I just drew the cost curves for a monopoly with a huge profit… because I’d like to own one. :p

Heh, for my box I glued a pair of aces to the page, face-down, so the admissions officer has to flip them up to see the hand.

If you’ve never played Hold 'Em Poker, it’s a common way to check your cards.

<a href=“ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs”>ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs;

Essay was about the ability to accept life as it comes, how there’s little point in dwelling on the past, regretting, obsessing, etc. (I just saw Sweeney Todd too last night! Could’ve been a whole new source of inspiration for my essay.)

That’s kinda cool - with me you’re holding pocket aces, nice.

a) picture of me and about 200 some girls lined up before a race with the words “Competition appeals to me”

b) arch student - I talked about my life in architecture and passion for running

I drew a picture of a guitar and used a string from my guitar and cut it into pieces with a wire cutters and taped them as the actual strings.

And I included a used pick…my lucky one =D

For my essay I wrote about how I am very well rounded with a musical background and even though I am interested in pursuing a civil engineering degree I still play music and athletics.

Basically about me being well rounded, except it sounded good.

In the box I put my ID card from shadowing an anesthesiologist at Northwestern this summer. (Rice/Baylor Med program applicant)

For my essay, I described the unique blend that my differing experiences create. I used an extended metaphor of cooking myself lunch to convey the message.
