Share Noteworthy New Movies You've Seen

One could argue, but not very convincingly. Rapture came out well over a year after Sugarhill’s Rapper’s Delight, which was definitely all over the radio where I was.

Blondie deserves a lot of credit though, for bridging the gap that had opened up between mainly white punk and new wave on the one hand and mainly black disco/funk on the other. Although they were very much part of the punk/new wave scene, they always tended towards dance music, and they started covering Donna Summers’ I Feel Love as their encore. It doesn’t sound like much now, but it was a big deal in 1977.

I saw the preview for The Oranges and thought “That’s a movie I don’t need to see.”

I always think I don’t like Bruce Willis, but in fact I think I’ve liked every movie I’ve seen him in. (Not many.)

I always think of Blondie as having one foot in jazz - definitely a crossover artist of some sort. :)

Thanks for the suggestion to see North Face!

^I think you’ll enjoy it, or I think you’ll say: es gefallt mich!

If you haven’t seen it, rent 16 Blocks – Bruce Willis – tense, taut drama.

Saw Pitch Perfect – wow that was fun! Really crisp funny dialogue. Didn’t realize it was a book first.

16 Blocks is a great film in my book. :)

Went to see Looper last night with another couple–all four of us thought it was so-so. Could’ve been tightened up.

Looking forward to seeing “Frankenweenie”, “Butter”, “Detropia” and “Argo”.

I want someone to tell me how Argo is. I just want to see Alan Arkin & John Goodman.

Just saw the preview of “The Sessions” , which happens to have Alan Arkin’s son, Adam, in it. Very interesting film.

Looking forward to Atlas Shrugged 2.

I’ve been rewatching old episodes of The Closer, jym626. Just saw the one with Arkin ( Adam), playing two characters that Flynn & Provenza are trying to serve.
Hilarious.
:)

Will have to see if I can find that on Hulu, EK. His role in “The Sessions” isn’t a comedic one, as he usually plays. This is a very interesting film. I had not realized it was a true story. Very touching story (no pun intended). http://www.thesessionsmovie.com/

Recommend Butter. Our cable carrier has it on pay-per-view. Arbitrage is offered on cable as well. Keeping more people from getting to the movies with newer stuff out on cable.

The Sessions sounds good but intense.

Apparently CC would rather we use the term, " down there".
;)

I think I’m more in the mood for Frankenweenie.

Actually it was not intense, EK. It was very well done, witty, amusing and charming.

Love this trailer…

I’ll put it on my try to see list then.

Youngest D says she is coming for a visit this weekend & asked me if I wanted to see a movie or play pool. ( I think it is cause she missed my bd last weekend)
Is it ok to see with a D who might be squeamish about seeing a movie about sex with her mom?

Umm… with that criteria… no.

Just came home from seeing Argo. MY H and I loved it. It was very well done (and Alan Arkin was hysterical :D). I was on the edge of my seat for the last 15 minutes or so! They really nailed the look of 1979/1980, with the clothing, cars, and how it used to be to fly commercially back then (no security, smoking in the cabin, etc).

Previews included Lincoln, Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty and *Flight/I. Finally, some good movies coming up before Christmas!

So whats the meaning of the title? ITs supposed to be a play on a limerick or something, and a tad on the impolite (as in not “G” rated) side, IIRC??

Argo was the name of the fake movie that was supposedly being made. There was a running gag with Alan Arkin that involved the name of the film, but I don’t want to give it away. It was pretty funny :)

Just saw Argo. HOLY LORD. Please win Best Picture.
