I find it pretty hilarious that a US Senator is taking it upon herself to try to discredit Zero Dark Thirty. Shades of McCarthyism.

I mean seriously – these are movies!

Watched Silver Linings Playbook last night. Trying to watch all the Best Picture nominations before the Oscars.

As someone who deals with mental illness I found the film very heartfelt. It knew when to hit points on the struggles a family deals with.

It was the first film I had seen Jennifer Lawrence in and she was superb. She had great chemistry with Bradley Cooper who also did very well.

I am 2/9 for Best Picture at this point. I think next is Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Saw Silver Linings this afternoon and thought it was great! Great actors, great script.

I’m 8/9 for BP. Seeing Amour in two weeks.

Or just teleport them back at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean?

^ :D

Silver Linings Playbook is up next for us, I think. It’s not likely, because Lincoln and Les Mis are strong contenders in various categories, but it could theoretically sweep every major award at the Oscars.

Jennifer Lawrence is a brilliant young actress. But I think I’m going to root for Naomi Watts for Best Actress, because she’s good in everything (and was robbed of a nomination for Mulholland Drive). Haven’t seen Emmanuelle Riva in Amour yet, though.

Everyone loves Mulholland Drive SO MUCH. It sucked. Very boring, not about anything in particular, slow.

I want JChass to win.

Saw Silver Linings Playbook yesterday…loved it.

Hard to believe the Jennifer Lawrence of SLP is the same actress from Winter’s Bone…so totally different. DH didn’t even recognize her…had to tell him who she was.

frazzled1 – glad you saw Premium Rush – it was in theaters then gone real fast so good to know I can get it on DVD and it’s worthwhile.

Saw Silver Linings Playbook. I can see why people liked it and why they didn’t like it. Really dragged before the big “parley” (which I always thought from The Wire was a sit-down). I thought Jennifer Lawrence either had terrible lines to say or she was supposed to be sort of ill at ease saying them.

Just rented Blue Valentine on Amazon Prime. Then I read a couple of reviews. Nobody seemed to catch the fact that Ryan’s character was an emotional bully – critical, manipulative, and verbally abusive. Great performances by both him and Michelle Williams but it was sort of like watching Martha Marcy May Marlene and rooting for her to leave the cult.

We just saw “Bernie” tonite, rented from Netflix. Funny interesting movie. Had no idea it was based on a true story. There is a NYTs article written by the nephew of the funeral home guy, also well done. The photographs of the real Bernie and Mrs. Nugent are shown.

Just saw Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut. Go see “Quartet”. Very well done and beautiful cinematography.

I saw Amour and didn’t like it. Veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slow. Really disappointed.

Saw the previows for “amour”. Had no clue what it is about!

Can anyone remember the movie that was out last summer about a kid who was teased in HS? I cant recall the name and was trying to tell someone about it today…

Was it a theatrical film or a documentary, jym? This documentary got excellent reviews, but it might not be the one you mean: [Bully (2011) - IMDb](<a href=“Bully (2011) - IMDb”>Bully (2011) - IMDb)

I will have to see Amour when it gets to Netflix - no one I know wants to see it. :(

thanks, frazzled. MY husband finally remembered one word in the title so I was able to pull it up. Its called “The Perks of being a Wallflower” http://movies.nytimes.com/2012/09/21/movies/the-perks-of-being-a-wallflower-directed-by-stephen-chbosky.html We ran into someone at dinner who was asking for directions to the theater- - turns out he was friends (growing up) with the guy who wrote this semi-autobiographical film.

I’ve seen Lincoln, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Argo. Django, Les Mis, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty. Yet to see: Life of Pi and Amour.

I’m betting on Lincoln for Best Picture but would be satisfied with Beasts or Les Mis as I think they both merit it. Or Argo. Loved Argo.

My problem with Silver Linings Playbook (I did like it but…) was the awkwardness of some of the scenes. Not scenes of awkward moments but scenes that were awkwardly scripted and acted. The most bothersome one to me was the scene after the football game when Jennifer Lawrence charges into the house and goes on a tear about her being his good luck charm, etc. It just seemed like a force. Especially when she sips the beer. Like they were trying to say too much with that scene and her gestures and it just seemed overdone to me. There were others too. Like the neighbor who keeps showing up at the door to do a documentary about mental illness.

Just saw Zero Dark. I really loved Lincoln but I think Bigelow made the more amazing film. I think she pushes the medium places we haven’t seen before. So yes, I’d have to say it’s the best I’ve seen of this year’s films. I will go see Mis but am doubtful it will really rock me. Not a musical kind of gal. Did like Pi. Love Ang Lee. Just not dazzled. Haven’t seen Silver Linings. It sounds kind of contrived but I will go see. Argo seems to have vanished from theaters around me, darn it.

This year I’m actually fine with many of the noms winning.

I saw Warm Bodies today. It was delightful and had a great soundtrack.

In anticipation for Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring” in June I’m thinking of watching Marie Antoinette tonight.
