Share what you did in college that you haven't before~

I’m just curious about you guys.

I’m a freshman this year,

last month during my two day orientation, I think I’ve talked to more people than I have my past eight years added up.
Also, I made male friends… lol. First male friends since like, elementary school.

Yea, I was kind of the loner type haha.

But it’s been great socially (academically, I’m dying) so far.

lol I haven’t been on this site since school started… it feels great to be back here

I’ve done a million things in college that I never did before! Some things are just things you don’t get the chance to do in high school while others are things I had never dared to do. College is all about putting yourself out there and trying new things, so it’s good to hear you’re talking to people and making friends!

Good for you @CeLcel, I remember reading how nervous you were before you started College, glad it is working out for you.

I have…
Gotten a C on an exam. :open_mouth:
Volunteered at an animal shelter.
Aced a final (same class as above, actually).
Walked almost everywhere.
Mastered a bus system.
Had a long-distance relationship.

I’ve started drinking green tea for a caffeine boost. It’s not as much as coffee, but I can’t stand coffee and can tolerate green tea.

“mastered on a bus system” lol

I grew up just outside of a small rural-suburban town that had a population of 134 in 2010. The township surrounding it has about 20k. I walked to school until eighth grade, when they finally gave my neighborhood a bus. There is no other public transportation.

Where you put the coins and bills to pay for your bus ride was, therefore, an absolute mystery to me when I came to campus. As was how to read a bus schedule.

sex

also i got high once so far, and the dad of the girl i was with walked in (with his dog) and started smoking with us. This was also right next to the RA room

oh and finally able to come out, without fearing for my life every day

@bodangles yeah, i’ve had many “firsts” due to coming from a very small town, such that people looked at me like i must’ve been in a coma all these years

Like i ordered pizza delivery for the first time, and i didn’t tip the driver. I truly didn’t know you were supposed to, oops

i didn’t know how to do much of anything cept cow tipping

@steellord123 I will have to remember that when I eventually try my hand at ordering pizza!

Mountain climbing! Just did that last week.

Learned how to slack line…well, sorta, anyways.

Did my first load of laundry at college without any mishaps (yes, i did my laundry at home too, but it’s still a first haha).

Went on a high ropes course and swung from 60ft in the air.

Got lost in the middle of Cambridge during a snow storm at 1 in the morning.

Things I have done in college that I haven’t done before:

*Score less than 30% on an exam
*Master the T
*Not have eaten boxed mac and cheese for 4+ years
*Take a kayaking class
*Cook dinner for ~30 people
*Slide down a 50 ft pile of snow

  • I started taekwondo classes
  • I went skydiving, and will go for my first solo jump and work towards my class A license in the spring
  • I got a job
  • I learned to canoe
  • I got a sub-30% score on a test

I had a deadline for a paper extended because tigers were on the loose.

  • Had classes canceled
  • Got drunk
  • Cookout
  • Bojangles
  • Cracker Barrel
  • Cheerwine
  • Sushi (never tried it when I was back home lol)

Still waiting on a first kiss…

@MITer94 One does not simply “master” the T. The T is bottomless chasm where human decency goes to die.

@preamble1776 haha I meant to say, I’ve at least mastered (?) the subways. The buses and commuter rail are a separate issue…

  • started drinking coffee (and realizing that it's actually good when brewed properly. When I was young, my mother let me try gas station coffee whenever we went on long road trips and I thought they were the nastiest drink ever)
  • studied abroad
  • went on a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe with one of my school clubs
  • helped foster cats
  • experiment with cooking
  • pulled an all-nighter

I’ve only been here for five weeks but so far:
Went to a group fitness class
Stayed out until 3 am
Joined Habitat for Humanity
Started watching A LOT of movies (there is a free movie theater on campus)
Starting walking everywhere
Made a Tinder profile
Went on a date (Yes, it was a tinder date. No, it wasn’t THAT kind of date.)
And most importantly…I’ve worn shorts more in these five weeks than I have in basically my entire life because it’s Florida and there’s no dress code. #SkiesOutThighsOut
