Sharing a bedroom with someone?

Are there schools that don’t offer housing where students get their own bedrooms? In a school that offers both situations what is an estimated percent increase in price?

And then the same question for colleges that offer housing where you have your own dorm (and perhaps a community bathroom or something).

I am fine sharing a dorm with someone but not having my own bedroom would not be ideal. Although I am friendly I really need time where I am alone without interruptions. Also a lot of my productivity stems from my flexibility of sleep schedule.

The vast majority of dorms have at least 2 people sharing a room.

If it’s that problematic, you should see if you can get a single. Yes, it will almost certainly cost more.

Most colleges expect freshman to share a room with one (or even two) other students. Even by paying more, you can’t always get a single. They do usually have singles for students with a medical condition that makes it necessary, but you need proof from a doctor. Lots of colleges also require students to live in campus housing freshman year, too. Singles are the privilege of upperclassmen.

There are some exceptions at colleges with newer dorms, but you have to investigate college by college.

A lot of the shared dorm rooms (“dorm” refers to the entire building) I’ve seen are suites. They have a common bathroom and a little bedroom for each person. So your roommates can’t watch you sleep or anything.
