So i have been trying to figure out if I can share prime shipping with my children in college; the setup at Amazon has you
first adding a second adult, and only then can you add children. My husband has no need of an Amazon account, so I could give that spot to one of the kids, but I can’t find any info on whether or not the child accounts have access to the free shipping!
Can’t you just share your login and password?
I’ve thought of that, but they both have their own credit cards and accounts, I’m not sure how to “share” the cart either. I always have things in there waiting for the price to go down.
You can add multiple credit cards to a Prime account.
Yes, I’m aware of that, as I have myself more than one on Amazon. But they both already have their own Amazon accounts, and I’m sure they don’t want me to see everything they buy, as I don’t want them to see everything I buy! Plus at Christmas and birthdays, that could get sticky as well. Really, the only thing we want to share is the shipping. They both are living at home and commuting to save money, so the Student membership would really be a waste of money! I’m just trying to figure out if I added them to my account as children (Amazon allows two adults and four children to share a Prime account), would the one stuck getting added on as a child receive the free shipping benefit, as I can’t find that simple anwer anywhere!
My student shares his with us LOL, The less I pay, the better I feel. I am sure he loves the stuff I put in the basket. If there is a way to hide baskets etc, your kids would know how.
Of course, I hadn’t thought of that one!!
You have to decide it if is worth it to share an account and perhaps share buying history or pay more and have private accounts. If you want total privacy, it will cost you.
My kids just use my account. They have their debit accounts on there, order books, etc. I don’t know if they realize I get a copy of their purchases by email, but I do (and I don’t care).
When my BIL wants to order something in secret, he opens up a trial account for a month or two, then cancels.
This is probably the route I’ll go, just disappointed about the whole “household” sharing process, and if I had known about sharing my prime account sooner, my older son would have been grandfathered in.
Our Prime account has both my husband and myself, both our kids and their spouses, my mother and my husband’s brother! I think there are 8-10 credit cards stored, and I am the chief orderman for my mother and BIL as they have no idea how to use Amazon. My son decided to change the account where his wife was the primary, which means they paid the membership for this year
My adult kids still have their own Amazon accounts, but unless they are ordering something as a surprise and don’t need 2 day delivery, they don’t use their own accounts. It is nice to have a shared account also for Kindle books as my daughter is a huge reader and we read some of the same books, and she and her brother read some of the same; my DIL still won’t use a Kindle, so she does not share with us!
My son is the primary on our Amazon account. We have free shipping but not the free books or video.
My son doesn’t see what we order and we don’t see what he orders either. Completely separate accounts and all we have is free shipping.
He had to add us and sent us an invitation as I remember which we accepted. I think you can view it through manage your prime. If not I’ve found that the chat on Amazon is very helpful.
Unless they’ve changed how prime accounts work. When I go to manage my prime account it lists that the primary is our son and when the prime expires.
I don’t have a Prime account so on the rare occasions that I use Amazon, I sometimes borrow a friend’s. She gives me her login and pw and I use my own credit card and shipping info. I don’t store my info on her account and I don’t keep her info; although she has told me I can use it any time, I never do so without first getting her permission.
I’m confused on this sharing Prime account thing!
I have a prime account - and my kids will use it, but just add their credit card info and charge to themselves. I do usually get an email notification of what they order - but if I didn’t order anything I just don’t look at the email. Or i forward it to them.
I just looked at my account and do see where it says you can “share a household account” for some benefits - and add another adult. So…I could add one of them there? What benefits do they NOT get by being listed on my account that way???
I"ve always been surprised that they have allowed different credit cards to be stored…and didn’t push for separate accounts…but also know that if my kids had to pay for their own Prime…they probably wouldn’t!! We order much more having Prime than if we didnt.
@abasket that’s how our account is set up. We share a household account. We only get the prime shipping. Not the video or book sharing.
It’s 2 separate accounts, we don’t see what he orders and he doesn’t see what we order. We have 2 different a accounts and don’t share passwords. S is very strict about sharing accounts and passwords. He kicked me off his Verizon account a couple of years ago, does not want to share even if it saves money. So I share my Verizon with my daughter she doesn’t care about sharing.
^^^ But only one of you pays the $99 (or whatever) fee right?
On our account we have one .edu login and password which the kids all know. The login is my husband’s edu email address and a password the kids have known forever. While my husband gets the confirmation emails, the kids have full access to the account and can see and change anything; that is how my son changed the primary to be his wife’s credit card; not sure why he didn’t put it on his!
Each of us that logs in can see what orders have been placed and can track all orders. This has not been a problem with any of us. Like I said above, I guess if we were ordering something for one of the other members as a surprise or gift, we would have to use our personal Amazon account and not expect quick shipping. Or hope they didn’t check the orders within those two days!
This is the same Prime account we have used for as long as I can remember. I added my mother’s address and credit card a couple of years ago, and my BIL last year. They tell me what they want to order and I place the order using their own credit card which is stored. I don’t trust either one of them to not use someone elses card which is store as they are not very computer savvy, so they just tell me what to order and I take care of it.
Yes only one of us pays the $99.
This was the case before but .edu accounts can only have one person on the account. No separate accounts like we have.
My kid and I share a logon (hers). I just buy her presents on my account and pay shipping if I have to. I try to stay out of the common basket near holidays. Biggest issue for us is remembering to change the shipping address. Once a 10 lb bucket of cake icing she ordered at school showed up at my place.
If you want the prime video, music, or books, you have to sign in with the account holder’s email and password. My kids can order/watch whatever they want.
Do I know that my daughter ordered a phone case for her boyfriend or a roku thing for her TV? Why yes I do. I don’t care and it is not worth it for her to have her own account.
We all share DD’s student account and have multiple credit cards attached to this account so whoever orders- pays. This only possible if you completely trust all people who share this account because the credit card information it up there.
