Very hard for me to have any sympathy for him. But as regards the mother, she clearly went the extra mile to save this kid before he wrecked himself. Now a policewoman is dead, the kid’s life will be tremendously stunted, and the mother of course will be further heartbroken. All my empathy is with the mother. The kid certainly knew what he was getting into. He had enough warnings and interventions.
We had a situation in my hometown there the adult child (who had mental health issues) still lived at home and didn’t work. The parents had tried many different ways to get help for the son, but he always managed to charm the judge when in court, so he ended up never getting any outside help. One night, he flew into a rage and killed his mother using a knife and hurt his father. He is now in prison and may get some help but so sad that it took a murder for this to happen.
The one I feel for most is the officer killed and her family.
Baltimore is a nightmare of corruption (I live here, I can say it), no one takes responsibility for the schools falling apart, the corrupt politicians, the high poverty rate, the high crime rate. But those who pay are the citizens and victims. And yet, the casino money goes into the general fund and the excuses continue.
There was a mother who saved a school in Belleville Illinois from being shot up. She knew her son had broken up with a girlfriend, had expressed a lot of anger and early one morning she saw that he was gone and so was her handgun. The police found him before anyone was shot. But school was cancelled that day as a precaution.
Mothers like this, alert to what’s going on in their kids’ lives, can stop school shootings.
Presumably, she also went out and bought a safe to securely store the gun when not carrying it?
Better yet, if she had it destroyed.
