Spouse is picky about his sheets. We have had Royal Velvet Pima Cotton sheets by Fieldcrest for years. Both sets are now threadbare. They don’t make them anymore. I bought sheets at Costco but they are Sateen and he hates them. It seems all I am finding in the stores here are Sateen.
I have looked at the percale sheets online at Company store or Garnet hill. Anyone try them. I am at the point I will spend the money but hate to order them and not have them be soft.

I am laughing cause when I opened this thread I thought, wow, it’s only January and the threads have started about XL sheets and egg crate mattresses! But no, just normal stuff!

I can’t help you too much but can say that these sheets my kids got to go to college (they get the new stuff, never us, notice that??), were some kind of natural fiber, I forget the name, but feels very silky/soft like jersey. These were bought at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
Susan

Edit: I just looked them up on the store’s site…Pure Beech Jersey. There is another one that is Jersey that says Egyptian Cotton (again, not sateen).

We are also very picky about the feel of sheets and hate sateen. I will brazenly open any package in any store to feel the hand of a sheet before buying. I have found that, in general, Ralph Lauren sheets tend to have a wonderfully smooth, cool feel, and pick them up at outlet/Home Goods-type stores whenever possible. (Of course, matching up acceptable feel with acceptable decor can be very frustrating). I found one wonderful duvet-cover at BB&B about a year ago, but went back looking for the same product in sheets/pillowcases and couldn’t find them. Believe it or not, I recently bought 400-count sheets at Target which we love. Otherwise, it’s hit or miss and open-the-package before buying. I would not hesitate to mail order and return if unacceptable (check their policies first).

No one has offered offered to spring for the Pratesi or Frette for us, but I imagine we’d be in heaven. :)

If he likes jersey, both my girls love their Target jersey sheets and the price is reasonable, too. We have had company store bedding & towels, but not sheet!

No jersey, no knits. And no odd colors. He isn’t picky about many things and is normally frugal about most things but he is willing to pay more if he can have soft smooth sheets.
Jmmom- I saw those Target sheets but I was afraid to buy sheets at Target. I love Target and have bought my kids sheets there and towels but I hesitated to buy them for us. Target is a 45 minute drive but next time I am down I will look at them more carefully.
And Thanks all of you I knew this was the place to find the answer.

Lands End has very good sheets – the Supima line might do the trick for your husband. I think Lands End will send out swatches, so he can give it a feel before purchase. And their flannel sheets are wonderful!

Macy’s Hotel line of 600 count Egyptian cotton is very soft and smooth–and on sale at about $250 a set for queen(pillowcases extra).

“on sale at about $250 a set for queen”

Do they at least throw in the bed for free?

Actually $200/set, I forgot we got a new mattress pad too. Believe me, you do feel the difference and for a place I spend 1/3 of my life $200 for luxury is not bad. We have a $1500 mattress and that was worth every cent too. I can have my glass of scotch on the bed and my wife could get up and it does not move let alone spill a drop.

single malt?

Usually. In a bad month ( when I need more than one a night) I might have to switch to the cheaper stuff.

LOL Barrons, I have an entirely new image of you after reading this thread. :)

and fundingfather doesn’t get out much (to linen stores, anyway) if he thinks $250 for a complete linen set is pricey ;). I guess he’s raiding the sheets-and-towels fund for the single malt.

Can we thrown mattresses in to the discussion here. H and I are discussing a tour… of hotel mattresses that is…to help decide ‘what’s next.’ It seems like the last few hotels we have been in have had better mattresses and linens than we have at home, which is clearly not acceptable. Trying a mattress in a store seems quite inadequate- the hotel tour could be pricey, however. The last mattress we both liked was a waterbed 25 years ago…which clearly would not pass the ‘won’t spill the scotch’ test…

Don’t know that you can try them in a hotel, but we got the Tempurpedic years ago. Our mattress at the time was bad and, while Tempurpedic was virtually unknown at the time, you could try it out at Brookstone - which we did - and get a 30-day free trial.
We have never looked back. Would pass the scotch test, too, although I have to admit we didn’t realize that should have been our litmus test.

I wish my wife treats me as nice as you care about your hubby.
sighs.

Barrons, I am getting all these images now…does the bed move in other “situations”???
I guess there is a scotch test (never thought of that one) but what about…um, well, ok, I’ll leave it at that.

PS…I must not get out much either as I have never spent that much on sheets, so count me in that group (would that be 100, 200 or 300 count? LOL)

I got some 1000 thread count sheets from Overstocks.com (thanks to someone on this forum). They are very dense and very cool - important down here. They felt a little sateeny at first, but that must have been sizing, because it washed out and they became smooth, soft and cool.

About three years ago, DH and I got a deal on two nights at the Connaught in London, where they have Frette sheets. After sleeping deeply for ten straight hours, both of us admired the sheets; we liked them so much we bought a set from the hotel before we left. Occasionally overstock.com has them, so we now have two sets. They are horrendously expensive, but also astonishingly comfortable. We also have a Tempurpedic mattress.

Mine aren’t Frette (wow), they were only about 69.95 for king, but have held up well
