"She's a classy dresser"

What does that mean to you? Wears expensive designer labels? Wears clothes in a dignified way? Doesn’t spend alot but looks well in anything she wears? Tries not to call attention to herself?

To me it means the woman has good taste in clothing (but not necessarily that the clothing is designer or expensive, though), and in particular she knows what looks good on her, and wears what is appropriate for the occasion, for her age and for her build.

Yeah, that. ^^^^

I think of clothes that aren’t too trendy, but have a certain style. Also, clothes that look (non-PC term) a bit ‘upper class.’

Also, what TheGFG said! :-)

Agreed, “classy” is “classic” - not trendy.

Doesn’t show bits of herself that are best left in private.
No matter how much she works out and how many surgeries she has had, keeps the sexxee for appropriate events/company.

Has Kate/Audrey Hepburn for a role model.

However- it is boring to dress like that all the time- ;)

Dresses in a classic manner comes to mind first, but one can certainly dress in a stylish/high fashion way that would be classy. Think Vanessa Williams on Ugly Betty.

IMO, a “classy dresser” is someone who:

dresses age-apropriately (e.g., no leather mini-dresses for a 30+ year old lady)

dresses occasion-appropriately (no leather mini-dresses at a business function)

chooses clothes that fit properly or alters them to fit properly

has clothes looking clean and crisp, takes care of them

does not chase every trend and must-have item, but does update her wardrobe

(My biggest pet peeve with young females these days is underwear sticking out. Bra straps especially - bleh!)

What’s with the bra straps showing on tops that are meant for racer back bras? So sloppy looking to me.

Well, I’m going to bite on this - just curious, why do you pose this question??? (seems like there could be an interesting story behind it !)

If you don’t want to, I understand. :)

We were at a Christmas party and I overheard a guy talking about a new neighbor who he’d met but the rest of us haven’t. He just said that she was “very classy” so I’m looking forward to meeting her and seeing what he meant.

When a guy says that it might just mean she’s well put-together. Has her hair done, nails, wears jewelry, and the top of her outfit matches the bottom.

Unlike the rest of us shleps. ;)

And he may not realize it, but she’s high-maintenance.

Well, someone who is “very classy” may or may not be a classy dresser and vice versa. When a person is said to be classy it may be a reference to their character rather than their manner of dress.

Right, coureur. If he said “classy” that could mean she has good manners, always knows the right thing to say, can talk to anyone, etc.

A “classy dresser” just refers to the window dressing.

A man says she’s a “classy dresser”? No telling. :)

Tasteful & refined.

Hmmm. “Classy dresser” conjures someone who spends a lot of money and has elegant refined taste. Possibly synonymous with conservative.
But a classy PERSON could be just the opposite – someone who is adept at putting others at ease because they are not so concerned with impressing others.
I could be overthinking this…

If a guy said that, then definition of “classy” could be totally opposite to what we are talking about (think mini skirts, cleavage-revealing blouses, total Sex and the City ;))

^LOL

And I agree with Bela. Sometimes, class has more to do with appearances.

I hope the OP will come back and tell us her own impressions of the reported ‘classy dresser’ (or classy person!) when she meets her. That would be interesting!
