She's coming home!!!

DD is coming home – for the summer – tonight. I missed her, but didn’t realize how much until yesterday when I surprised myself by my own excitement. It was so FUN getting ready for her arrival: I vaccumed and dusted her room, washed her sheets and hung them outside for that ‘fresh’ smell, stocked the fridge with her favorite food, and now I can’t wait till tonight to pick her up at the airport. I’m not sure who ‘grew’ more during this freshman year of hers – her, or me. Here’s to all of us who survived our children’s first year away from home.

I smiled when I read your post. My H laughs about my preparations when the kids come home—he acts like I never buy groceries unless one of them is coming in. I also do the room cleaning and freshening–guess it’s more for me than them!

Oh, I’m jealous! My DS is just having midterms…he won’t be home til June!

katliamom – in terms of timing, you’ve got me beat by 2 weeks; in terms of excitement, we’re tied, I’m sure! No matter how much we talk on the phone, I really need to give her a hug, especially after the horrible events of last week. Add in the fact that my H travels a lot, and my S (HS soph.) is as “conversationally challenged” as most boys his age … well, I can’t wait to have my chatterbox back!!!

I have 2 weeks myself before my son comes home and I’m starting to stock the shelves and pick up him room a little (sister uses it to study) I was ready to say goodbye after a long December break but really missed him after the spring break and Easter. I hope we all have nice “reunions”.

kataliamom: You made me jealous! I still remember how excited I was to see my son last year, his first year away. This year he’s coming home for only 2 weeks (and with girlfriend) and then he heads back to school for summer research thing. And I’m really resigned to it! But it’s SAD! Sad that he’s not really going to be home and sad that I’m used to it! :(

My D is finishing sophomore year. We just heard today that she will be coming home for the summer. She received confirmation about an internship/job. At least we get to see her for one more Summer. I doubt that will happen again. The next internship is more likely to be near school or in another city.

It doesn’t change as they get older…D has decided to go for a local internship instead of a second one in D.C. that wouldn’t be as good as last year’s, so she’ll be home for almost two months!!! (As an added plus, she saves on housing costs. Or we do.)
