Ship a tv or buy a new one?

We decided to ship son’s stuff via UPS to the package center and fly down instead of loading up the car and driving down.

All seems ok except his tv. Not sure how to pack it without it getting damaged and it’s heavy. Do you think we’d be better off just buying a new tv when we get down there?

i think it would be ok to buy one.

i was willing to buy one for DD but she just wants to take the one from her room.

<shrug></shrug>

I would suggest buying one in AL. If possible, you could wait a couple weeks and see if he really needs a TV. Of course, you can ship his current TV down at any time, not just the beginning of the year.

I would buy a TV when you get there. The weight of a TV would be expensive to ship.

Would agree about weight/cost. There’s enough options to pick up one in Birmingham when you fly in,that’s our plan.

you could buy one at walmart online and ship to store for free.

when we bought our last tv their online price was as good or better than any other price we could get. but the in store price was more, so beware of that.

samsung is the best brand these days.

or you could buy it at Bestbuy.com and pick it up at the store in Tuscaloosa.

walmart and best buy have some of the same things.

either would work.

you could also look at overstock.com.

Yeah we have to stop in B’ham anyway to buy his sheets, towels, etc etc so I guess we’ll just stop and pick one up.

I figure it will be better to shop in B’ham that day than it will be in Tuscaloosa. I imagine 5000 kids moving in will make the stores a zoo.

Wow, that many! We went to a send off party, and only two of the kids out of the over 20 attending are coming later. Mostly girls who were coming for rush came to the party, but heck, the few boys who attended didn’t mind one bit!

Stop by the Hoover Costco, outside of Birmingham… can load up on all kinds of stuff there!

Buy a relativley small (i.e. 24 inch) HD computer monitor/tv. My son loves his for both the TV aspsct and being able to hook his laptop up to it in his room so not alway on the laptop screen. He also like to have ESPN360 on half of the screen and homework on the other half. Son and his friends watch a lot of TV shows/movies on line…college students seem to know where this content is available for free.
