"Shipped items may not be immediately available"?

So in the Information for your Arrival packet, one of the moving tips was to “remember to bring with you, rather than ship, the items you’ll need during the first few weeks of school. Shipped items may not be immediately available”.

Is this really the case? If so, how log does it take to get our shipped packages? And does that mean that I have to bring my bedding with me?

Hmmm hope that’s not true since I just ordered all my Lit Hum books to be delivered to campus yesterday…

how do you know your classes already?

I don’t-it was only for Lit Hum.

Don’t sweat it. The Lit Hum books are also sold at the bookstore. If your shipment arrives late, you can always buy the book you need at the bookstore, and return the copy you get shipped. It shouldn’t be a problem, though, as you presumably already have a copy of the Illiad, which is first…

Um, I think that’s only an issue if whatever company you used to ship your stuff gets it to Columbia late or something. Otherwise, besides long lines at the package center, I think you should be fine. The warning seems like more of a “just in case” thing so that nobody has a $700 Physics book (just kidding, I don’t think there are seven hundred dollar physics books for real) shipped and it doesn’t show up til a few weeks into the class, or you only have two sets of clothes because you shipped all the rest. Extreme stuff like that.
