Shipping Chicago style deep dish pizza?

During the NFL season my husband and I host my husband’s brother and his son for most of the Green Bay Packer games. This always involves food. We decided this year that we would base our menu on the regional food for the team they are playing. So since we get to play Da Bears twice we hope to get some hometown Chicago style pizza sent to us (we don’t have one place in our 150k population city that sells it.) Has anyone ever had Chicago style pizza shipped to them? I know we like Giordano’s; however I am open to trying something else. Is there some other place that has better deep dish pizza?

Thanks in advance…I know we have a bit of time before the NFL season begins, but I might need to give the pizza a test run.

Lou Malnati’s is the best. There’s a website called Tastes of Chicago where you can order it and other Chicago foods to be shipped to you.

Thank you, IMSAgeek. I saw Lou Malnati’s when I was searching, but didn’t have any idea if it was a Chicago favorite.

I tried Lou Malnati’s when I was in Chicago last year and did not understand why anyone would eat it when they could have Giordano’s, but it is INCREDIBLY popular so that is probably what I would go with if you want to branch out from Giordano’s. When we were there last doing our research that was where EVERYONE told us to go.

Returned to Giordano’s last weekend for the first time in 30 years. Enjoyed it every bit as much as I had remembered… particularly since I hadn’t eaten gluten in more than a year.

OP, love that clever idea of basing your menu on the opposition. DH is a Packers fan and may never get to Lambeau Field during his lifetime but he still dreams of the day.

A friend at work has Lou’s shipped to her house a couple times a year - loves it.

Have any of you ever ordered the pizza and had it shipped to you? I am just wondering if tastes as good when you cook it as it does in the restaurants.

Worrywart - I first went to Lambeau about 5 years ago and have made it to one game each season since then. I hope your husband will make it there someday. It truly is a great football venue and the entire community seems to shut down during the games.

I think I will try having Lou Malnati’s and Giordano’s shipped and we can figure out which we like better before the games this fall.

Wile you are ordering the pizza, order up some Garrett’s Chicago mix popcorn - your guests will be glad you did!! ;)

The popcorn looks like a fabulous idea!

We used to eat at Lou Malnati’s when we lived in IL. So now my BIL who still lives in IL has shipped it here to Georgia as a birthday present to DH number of times. So far it’s always been good when we have received it.

DH like both but says he like Lou’s a little better than Giordano’s but he would be happy eating either one.

I find it hard to believe that deep-dish pizza can be shipped and not turn into dreck. (Of course, I think deep-dish pizza starts out as dreck, so maybe its fans are incapable of noticing.)

Not only should you add Garrett’s Chicago mix, throw in some Portillo’s hot dogs quick before Dick Portillo sells the group. And maybe some Italian beef if you want to get totally Chicago.

My family chowed down at Giordanos (with a lifelong Chicagoan) and send a photo. Looks divine.

Packers fan that was just in Chicago two weeks ago. I would second the call for Portillo’s Italian Beef.

Had Lou Malnati’s and Gino’s East. Skip the Gino’s. Malnati’s sausage is a large patty the covers the entire pie. Very popular. I have had Giordano’s in the past and I think I would put them a bit ahead of Malnati’s. None of it is bad, just different.

This may be heresy to the locals in the Windy City, but Pizzeria Uno is about as good as any of these and can be found in many more places. I have also heard Rosatti’s is another local gone ‘big’, but I cannot speak from experience on the quality of the pies.
