Does anyone have experience shipping large plastic trunks to their NYU dorm? I am moving from Florida to NY, so I am shipping myself 2 large trunks with wheels (that I bought for $18 each at walmart!) I am on the 9th floor of my dorm. How easy is it to pick up the trunks from the mail service/mail pick up location? Will I have to wait a couple days or something… I am hoping to have them arrive 1-2 days after I move into the dorm. I am shipping them USP ground so it should only take like 3-5 days. Any experience with shipping large boxes or trunks would be appreciated!

The only person who can tell you the answer to this is to call the manager of the dorm you are living in. Aren’t you a grad student? It will be different for grad dorms, I imagine. Just call the dorm manager and get the answer straight from the source.

Yes, I am living in a grad dorm but it is the same process as an undergrad dorm. I know I CAN ship a trunk to my dorm but I was wondering from students who have shipped large items to their dorms in the past how this experience was. I dont think my dorm can help me as much as other CC individuals. I am wondering more… are there dollies available after move-in-day if I need to get my stuff up 9 flights of stairs? If not, how do I move large boxes? How did other out-of-state students feel about shipping their stuff across the country?

I’ve been working in an Undergrad dorm over the summer. As soon as we get a package, we put a package slip in your mailbox. When you get your package slip, come to the resource desk and sign for it. There are carts available; you simply put the package in the cart and take the elevator up to your floor, then return the cart when you’re done.

Since move-in weekend is next week, we have been getting more mail lately. I can tell you right now that if you’re not officially checked into a dorm, we cannot accept packages on your behalf - they will be returned to sender. So make sure you’ve checked in before your package arrives.

Thanks so much for your response! I am soooo happy to hear there will be carts available. Thanks for all the advise.
