I have to take an SHL assessment test and am having difficulty finding good test prep. Anyone from HR here have tips or resources for me?
I would prefer test questions from actual SHL tests, in the same way that I strongly prefer actual released SAT and ACT questions, since my experience is that third-party prep companies aren’t as accurate. I’d be happy to be proven wrong, though!
It’s a company that a lot of HR departments use to administer cognitive tests and personality tests. Based on the sample tests I’ve taken, they are IMHO rather awful and the instructions are unclear and the correct answers are very subject to interpretation.
Unlike the SAT and GRE which I have also taken fairly recently and where the correct answers make sense.
I’m a very good test taker (even recently), and these are awful. I am strongly considering withdrawing from the application process (it’s not even a job I really want, it’s just for one that pays more money than I’m currently making) just to a) avoid the test and b) avoid doing poorly on it because it’s an awful test and it’s for a job in my own institution and I don’t want a poor test result to be on my HR record for my current employer.
I had to take an SHL test for a job about a decade and an half ago. I knew I would be taking it, but it didn’t even occur to me to study for it. It was an odd test. I got the job, so I guess I did okay.
