Shoes if you will be on your feet all day

I just signed up for some part-time work that will require standing all day.

Any shoe suggestions? Or sock suggestions?

I have wide feet, and I’ve always been one to choose comfort over style.

Birkenstock clogs or any Avias with cantelever heels (they disperse the impace on the heel to the whole foot)

How is it that clogs are comfortable?

It seems that they are made of hard rather than cushy material.

Edited to add: Oops, I see that Birkenstock clogs are not like Dansko clogs…

I love, love, love my Merells: [Women?s Slip-On Shoes ? Check Out the Merrell Women?s Jungle Moc Nubuck - J55994](http://www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/20463W/69371/Womens/Jungle-Moc-Nubuck?dimensions=0)

If they aren’t pretty enough they do make better looking shoes.

Lots of people (i.e. nurses) swear by Dansko clogs, but they kill the top of my feet: http://www.dansko.com/Womens/Footwear/Styles/Clogs/

Try them.
The Birkenstocks have a cork sole that conforms to your foot.
They are my ‘go to’ casual shoes.
I wear the Birkenstock clogs when I need socks for warmth and Birkenstock sandals all summer.
The Avias are what I wear to work (RN in ER).

Thanks for the recommendations!

For those of you who’ve responded – are you on your feet all day, or are these shoes you’ve experienced as comfortable?

I do have some comfortable shoes, but maybe they are not of the proper design to get me through a day of being on my feet?

How dressed up will you be? What kind of work will you be doing in terms of movement??

I’m a Keen fan.

[Keen, Shoes, Women at 6pm.com](<a href=“Keen womens shoes 1q keen | 6pm”>Women's KEEN Shoes | 6pm)

I’ll have to look presentable.

The work is in store market research.

I like Keen too, I just bought this pair:

I am on my feet and on the run all day and have wide feet and low arches. Shoes that are comfortable for many people are simply not comfortable for me! I dress business casual for work.

My Favorites:

Born/b.o.c-They tend to run wide.
Clark’s- most styles come in wide but can be hard to find at discount stores
Easy Spirit

These aren’t too beautiful, but they are reasonably priced and might do the trick?

http://www.dsw.com/shoe/easy+spirit+poinsettia+slip-on?prodId=164681&productRef=SEARCH

To me that’s too sneaker-y. What I like about the Merrells or the clogs is that while not beautiful, they are very neutral. If you wear pants I think they kind of disappear. Some days I am on my feet for hours on end, though mostly I have a mix of being outside and inside. When I walk for exercise (2-3 miles) I usually wear my Merrells. I think LL Bean still makes a copycat moc that is a little cheaper.

Those easy spirits were similar to what I wore when I was on my feet all day. I worked mostly on concrete floors and wore sturdy black athletic type shoes. Something with a back, clogs were ok but not as comfortable as the shoes you linked above.

I think I had 2 pair, slightly different to switch off. Everyone I worked with wore similar shoes. If you aren’t working everyday, one pair should be fine.

I work 14 hour days on my feet.
I wear Franco Sarto “Boco”, available for about $69 at Zappos. I think they look somewhat dressy with pants.
Enjoy your job!

It’s true that I prefer shoes (or sandals for that matter) with a back.

I like Clarks, Born or Munro. They are all very comfortable. A lot of nurses wear the Dansko clogs. I don’t know that I would find them comfortable but they are popular at hospitals. I can’t wear Birkenstock either. To me they are like walking on cement.

If you can, I would wait and see what other people wear. I found that what I thought was too casual, was not to most of my other workers and comfort won lol!

Why not just a pair of ballet flats? They go with everything and are comfortable. Come in every imaginable color and style. Price range runs from very reasonable to expensive depending on designer.

You might consider high-performance after-market insoles like New Balance Ultra-Arch Insoles or Superfeet. Supermarkets and drug-stores often sell after-market insoles too but I don’t know how well they perform. The New Balance insoles run about $40. I think that Superfeet run about $30.

For “presentable”, I recommend Tod’s, although they are very expensive. Slightly less expensive options are Paul Green shoes and Anyi Lu. Then there are Munro shoes, Ecco, Naot, etc. If there is a Walking Company store in your neck of the woods, they might have some nice options.

Contrary to popular beliefs, ballet flats are not good for the feet.

I have problems with my feet and I have been happiest with Easy Spirits. They come in dressy or athletic, sandals and clogs-pretty much whatever you like. I get most of mine at the outlet store close by, but if I know the style I can get them from 6pm.com. I have been on my feet for 12 hours or more on vacations in them and my feet have never hurt. I am partial to the Anti-gravity and 360 lines. They come in many different widths so you should be able to find one that works for you.

I have some Merrells I like too, and some Ahnu, which have memory foam in them. Both are also good for long hours of walking. Keens seem to be too wide for me. Danskos do not come in half sizes and although with most shoes I wear a 7, I need a 7.5 in Danskos, which don’t exist. I find them hard and uncomfortable as well.

Oh, and ballet flats have no arch and no support of any kind. If you don’t want to be wincing in pain at the end of the day, skip them. If you want flats, all of the above have them, but with support.

Hope this helps.
