<p>What kind of shoes do guys normally wear in the winter? My friend who goes to boulder told me all of her guy friends wear ‘Tims’ but I have absolutely no idea what those are and google search didn’t turn up anything.</p>

<p>Timberlands are good for winter. That is what we used to wear. I don’t know if that is what the guys still wear. You definitely need something waterproof for winter because you will need to walk around in the snow.</p>

During the tour we took last month we were told that UM was “amazing” with it’s snow clearing services. Snow was cleared almost as soon as it fell. Where is the snow that students need to walk through?</p>

OK. So boots are not needed to get to classes or dorms.</p>
<p>I rarely had to walk in the snow but definitely did have to at times. You can probably get away with not having big warm boots but something that isn’t going to leak the moment you step in a puddle is going to be a good idea, because there will be lots of puddles. I am not sure what the men wear, I haven’t noticed.</p>

<p>For the most part, tennis shoes are ok for guys because they do a decent job of clearing the snow (on campus at least.) The student neighborhoods you will have to walk through some snow though. You’ll quickly learn where the puddles will show up on your daily walking routes and will do your best to avoid them. It’s still nice to have a decent pair of hiking boots for the winter when you expect a couple inches of snow early in the morning, while you are in class, etc.</p>
<p>if you use athletic shoes make sure they are not mesh.</p>
<p>you will definitely be taking a trip to the shoe store if you show up with nothing waterproof</p>
