I had hoped they would apprehend the shooter before any fatalities occurred. Sadly, updates indicate that there are multiple fatalities and the gunman/gunwoman remains at large.

I don’t want to accept “the fact” that such threats to the public and the resulting mayhem have become common.

Son is working at a school across the river, just got a text from him that they are OK. When he took a job in SE DC, a shooting at the Navy Yard was not at the top of anyone’s list of things to worry about.

This seems to be a common occurrence in our country. It is already very difficult to get a gun in DC if you are a law abiding citizen. Yet, the criminals seem to have no trouble getting weapons. I hope either the police, the feds, or a military personnel can stop this guy before more innocent people are killed.

Why do you feel that way Romani? Did you mean you were expecting something bad to happen on the anniversary of 9/11/2001 or anniversary of the Lehman collapse?

The map on CNN was funny. My wife (who is from DC, and not far away) noted that they put the shipyard on the wrong side of the river. (They’ve now fixed it.)

Krlilies, nope. It had nothing to do with any date. But you have to think about the timeline of someone like me in their early-20s. There’s been a shooting or bombing every six months or so pretty much as long as I can remember.

I’m watching a local DC NBC afilliate on TV. There are three helicopters continuing to circle the area, and the situation is being reported as an active search for more gunmen.
