I just watched Commander Juris’s interview twice in the past 10 minutes on an online stream from a DC Television station. He said he was outside talking to the poor fellow when the man got hit in the head. Juris ran to get out of the line of fire. Yes, he had been inside when he first heard shots, but he had helped usher workers out of the building when the first shots were heard inside.

Yes Dudedad, but Maj. Hassan was just convicted recently. Certainly you would think that fact would come to mind to any reporter covering the Navy Yard shooting today.

Three law enforcement officials have identified the dead suspect as Aaron Alexis, a man in his 30s from Ft. Worth, Texas. He was a navy civilian employee.

Sometimes you just have to walk away and shake you head at some of the nonsense that passed for news. For someone who is in the News business to say that she can’t recall the last time there was a shooting on a military base is just the height of ridiculous or ignorant.

I just saw a military guy being interviewed who was supposed to be familiar with the Navy Yard. He said the guy wouldn’t have much problem getting on the base, but that after that he would have to shoot past the guard stations to get to the other floor he was shooting on.

Prayers needed for the victums. DD has a friend that is apparently one of the injured in the hospital. This after one of her friends was killed at VA Tech and one was unintentially shot and killed by an off duty cop. These kids are living through things we could not even imagine at their age.

We periodically go to the local AF base to either shop at the BX (havent done that in a while) or pick up something at the travel office. Without the sticker on the center of our windshield, we have to tell them why we are there, DH shows his old reservist ID, and we have to dri9ve over to an office to get paperwork that allows us on post. Maybe if teriwtt’s passenger was in uniform and/or had ID or orders ti might have been easier to get on post. Not sure. But we didnt find it that easy. Of course we havent tried in a while.

No, not only was he not in uniform, but they are told not to wear their uniforms on flights so as not to draw more attention to themselves; so because I’d never met this kid and I had to know how to recognize him when I picked him up at arrivals, he actually held his sailor’s cap in his hand… so I knew who he was when I saw that. Again, they did ask for his ID, too, but no orders or anything. It seemed all too easy to get on base.

That is surprising. Last time my DH was on base they did the mirror under the car thing and the whole nine yards. Gee, ya shoulda hit the BX and gone shopping while you were on base ;)

CBS reported tonight that he had had two previous gun arrests. He shot out someone’s tires and he also shot through the floor of his apartment and into the neighbor’s apartment below. That neighbor had apparently lodged noise complaints against him. Neither case was prosecuted. They also reported that there have been more than 200 mass killings in the U.S. since 2006. It boggles the mind and wounds the soul.
