Shooting in Colorado at Batman Screening

He may have not been as concerned about accuracy as just having the thrill of firing real weapons(as opposed to ones in video games). Who knows what was going through his mind.

It is worth mentioning that while we are debating all this, Colo residents are in the process of arming up. What–can’t lick um, join um’? Ain’t life a hoot!!!

If I was the judge, id bring him out into the alley way and shoot him in the head immediately. No crowding up jail cells, cheap, iffecient, and handy.

And what if the autopsy then showed a large brain tumor?

The process takes time. Lynch mobs are not the solution, imo.

jym626–As a several time victim of thefts I feel your personal outrage over what is often not even considered a serious crime in some cities. In Seattle you had to steal 7 cars before getting jail time. That is 7 convictions. Have to be a terrible car thief to get caught 7 times IMHO. It got so bad they finally lowered the threshold for jail time. Yes we have overcrowded jails. But sometimes when you let people out too early you get very unfortunate cases as we have several times around here.

Arabab~when you know people who are commiting horific crimes to get into jail because it would be better living conditions, theres a problem. Additionally, who cares if theres a massive brain tumor? Does that mean that taxes should have to pay for his medicine now? Those people who he killed were peoples relatives! I think being shot in the head would be a more moderate punishment than what he deserves, even if he has a brain tumor!

barrons–is auto theft outside the Washington three strikes law? I thought I read it does “count” under California law.

beats being a victim

What we really need to do is re-examine what is available to the public in the way of what can easily be purchased and kept by people. I have never understood why automatic weapons should be owned by ANY citizens–I can understand why it may need to be used in SWAT or military units but NOT regular citizenry.

Yes, I know that there are other ways of terrorizing people and killing people, including bombs and other lethal things, but automatic weapons make it too easy to kill & maim too many so quickly with victims having very few options available to themselves.

Apparently so. Very few seem to qualify here.

[Local News | Bill sends message to car thieves | Seattle Times Newspaper](http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2003594671_autotheft01m.html)

It’s already generally illegal to have automatic weapons. A semi-automatic is what some people confuse with ‘fully automatic’. A fully automatic fires multiple rounds with one pull of the trigger whereas a semi automatic fires one round per pull of the trigger. Apparently in this case a semi-auto rifle and pistol was used. The shotgun that was used, if the reports are correct (a Remington 870), wasn’t any kind automatic - it’s a pump. But, it doesn’t take much to pump it for another shot. Likewise, a ‘revolver’ isn’t a fully-auto or semi-auto weapon but one can fire off the 6 or so shots about as fast as one can pull the trigger but in this case he apparently used a semi-auto handgun which also held more than 6 or so bullets (around 17 I think).

“I’m not sure he ever considered the consequences after his act…maybe he was considering suicide by police?” - That’s my guess. Or he planned to get away, with police diverted to the booby trapped apartment.

If gun sales in CO are up, it’s probably because folks anticipate more rules/paperwork in the future. The CO folks that I’ve heard talk about are heartbroken and shocked at the situation - none are interested in gun purchase.

Wow–that really connects with vehicular manslaughter due to drunk driving–as well as semi-automatic weapons. More lives would be saved if there were very, very long mandatory first offense jail sentences for driving under the influence.

OK, I don’t understand why semi-automatic weapons are needed by citizenry either. You’re right–didn’t know the difference between fully automatic & semi-automatic but can’t see why any other than police & military should need either of these types of weapons.

My thoughts exactly.

I don’t know if this has been posted or not, but Christian Bale went to visit the victims. Good for him.

I will never understand the “protect our guns” at all costs mentality. When children are killed by drunk drivers, there are nationwide campaigns by parents. When children are killed by drivers on cell phones, there are nationwide campaigns by parents. When children fall in pools with no fences, there are nationwide campaigns by parents. When children are mowed down by guns… was that a pin I heard drop? Why are we so willing to sacrifice our children to the 2nd Amendment?

^because you can’t just ban guns and just have the bad guys using them.

It should be illegal to sell OR possess any of these types of weapons or anything to convert any weapon into such an automatic or semi-automatic weapon. There could be an amnesty period where people can turn in these items with no penalty.

It should also be illegal to possess or sell any ammunition that pierces “bullet proof” vests and similar. Also don’t understand why ordinary citizenry should need or own body armor such things–it should also be for military & cops only.

Increasing weaponry is not the answer. :(

Perhaps rather than coming from stupidity or levity, these people are misguided by fear. I personally feel for these people rather than look at them with derision. Many people have been deeply shaken by the concept of losing one’s life while being terrorized in a movie theater and hunted down like animals. I don’t think buying guns is the answer, but silly me, I prefer to try to understand rather than look down my nose and revel in my superiority. The whole thing is actually quite sad.
