Fox news says the shooter is a 29-year-old… Steven Morgen.

*Stephen Morgan
And he is not a student or connected to the University at all:

In fact, it looks like he may be a professor at Cornell, says Wesleying.

It’s not a Cornell prof.

Elaborate? I’d love to believe that but the pictures look awfully similar.

According to this she had filed an aggravated harassment complaint against him in 2007 when they were both students at NYU.

But students have said she was at Wes since Freshman year, so this is confusing.

Maybe she took classes over the summer?

That’s what I’m thinking too. Press conference is about to start. Maybe we’ll find out.

The striking degree to which the two, apparently different, "Stephen Morgan"s resemble each other adds just one more macabre ingredient to this whole tragedy:

This updated article does say they were students together in an NYU summer program in 2007, which is when she filed the harrassment complaint. But the article also still says she had problems with Morgan since 2006. Do not know whether that date is still correct.
someone posted that the clean-cut photo of Stephen Morgan has been removed from the NBC story cited in post #29. A grainy photo of a much younger man, possibly taken many years ago, is now being circulated on the Wesleying website.

The new photo: http://wesleying.org/

Last month, a junior at Gettysburg college, fatally stabbed a freshman girl.
I can’t help thinking about the parents who have to claim the bodies.

As a Wesleyan parent, I know we cannot evaluate the decisions being made by police and college officials while in the midst of this tragedy, but I would say, to those who may be attending next year or parents of students heading to Wesleyan, I think the communication from the administration feels right: direct, frequent and as transparent as seems reasonable. I’m appreciating the updates we are receiving.

I too am a Wes parent. We have received excellent communications and updates from the university. I thought there was an emergency telephone system in place as well but have not been called. Then again the administration is most likely very busy and is communicating via frequent emails. Plus the school has been in contact with the students. I wonder how long the lockdown will continue and how exams, final projects, etc. will be affected. My son and his friends are talking about spending the weekend at one of their parents’ homes in New England.

Read on CNN that they lifted the lockdown but they want kids to stay indoors for the time being. Seems reasonable to me. Frankly, I don’t know if it’s better or worse that this wasn’t “random” or at least it doesn’t appear random. I think the whole jewish link however was perhaps done in the hopes of police thinking this was random vs someone with whom the victim knew.

How much comes out about how well these two knew one another are sure to come out because a summer program in 2007 seems like a long time to hold a grudge with nothing else inbetween to link them.

Lots of new information about the suspect and his plans. Very scary.

Oh my god, a Wesleyan “shooting spree”?
This is so scary.

The reactions from students are touching, though.

I’m more blown away that the cops questioned the guy after the shooting and didn’t realize. Weren’t there witnesses? W T F ??

^^i’m not surprised by that. arsonists and other psychopaths sometimes stay behind to witness their handywork. that’s why police often review news camera footage for bystanders.

what i’m struck by is the obvious debt we owe to quick-thinking police, safety and university officials. This guy was obviously headed for Spring Fling if everyone hadn’t reacted quickly.
