I turned on MSNBC this afternoon to see that there was a shooting at Broad Street Books. Can anyone provide any info on this? My parents are pretty much freaking out…

at 1 PM at Broad Street Books’ cafe. Supposedly a female worker there was shot. My son is a student there and emailed me that parents will be receiving an email and/or phone call. My son works there other days. Students are saying that the shooter was the student’s BF who is not a student at Wesleyan but this has not been confirmed. My son also says that students are not indoors as the administration requested but are outdoors on campus. So very sad.
The Hartford Courant is reporting it as a fatality:[Student Shot Dead Near Wesleyan; Gunman At Large – Courant.com](http://www.courant.com/community/news/mr/hcu-middletown-shooting-0506,0,6172233.story)

She was apparently a student employee at the bookstore.

Sorry but the link to the Courant is not printed as I typed it

Any word about who the victim is, other than a Wesleyan student?

Momwaitingfornew - PM me.

What a terribly sad day for the student’s family and the entire Wesleyan community. Broad Street Books is one of the last places I would have ever imagined something like this happening.

Is the Bookstore on campus or in the commercial strip of Middletown?

I can’t imagine the grief. My heart goes out to all Wesleyan students and their families, whether they were directly affected or not.

Such senseless violence.

swatgrad - it all runs together at that point. It’s on a Wesleyan owned plot, maybe half a city block from downtown.

From Channel 3 Hartford news:

The shooting involved the victim and her boyfriend, who entered the book store wearing a wig and carrying a gun, police said. They said the victim worked at the bookstore caf

This is a very, very unfortunate incident…

My condolences and love go out to the victim, her family, and her friends.

And many sources believe that the victim was a student and that the perpetrator was her ex-boyfriend. At this point, it unfortunately will most likely be confirmed officially…

R.I.P.

The website confirmed that the victim was a student:
- It is my sad duty to inform you that a Wesleyan student was fatally shot at the Broad Street Bookstore earlier this afternoon. The parents of the student have already been notified, but we cannot release the student’s name until all of the immediate family have been contacted.

Truly awful.

A Junior, Johanna Justin-Jinich. How devastating and overwhelmingly sad for her family, friends and Wesleyan community.

I feel so badly for her parents right now. And for all of the students there. Unfortunately, this type of tragedy occurs every day in all corners of our country. Happens so much we’ve become desensitized. Until something like this hits home.

so true. you never think of it as something that could happen at your school or to someone you know…

i can’t imagine how someone could do something like this

Shooter was a Wes student? That’s what some reports are saying.

Someone on Wesleying said that she/he saw a news report that had a photo or footage or something of the shooter, and he looked 30-40 (though it was hard to tell), in which case it would not be a Wesleyan student. Though if this were true, it would also not be her ex-boyfriend (probably).

What a horrible incident.

there’s a picture of the shooter here: [Wesleyan student shot, killed | WTNH.com](http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/news_wtnh_middletown_shooting_incident_at_wesleyan_200905061328)

really awful
