Short 1 Credit!

I want to apply to TAG UC Santa Barbara this fall but I am short one credit. Does anyone know how I can earn one uc transferable credit before the September 30th deadline?

Online quickie course in anything. All of the community colleges have quick start and you’re lucky that the UC’s start late.

Aunt Bea: I seriously doubt he can finish an online course even for only 1 credit (that needs to be UC transferable in a month) it doesn’t matter when the UC’s start it matters the September 30th deadline for the TAG.

Lieberman01: Uhm if you have any courses you believe yourself to be like really good in like sociology or poli-sci or whatever subject you could pass with your eyes closed do what’s called a Credit by Examination at your CC, it’s a test that is basically what would be a final exam for the class without taking the class and if you pass with a C or better youre given the units for that class and it in no way affects your GPA, and if you don’t pass it is not recorded in your transcript. The downside is just that you have to pay what you would to take the whole class just for the test. But if you want that TAG It’ll be worth it!

Thank you! I will look into that!

Don’t quote me in this, but I believe UC Santa Barbara takes into account Fall grades for TAG. Meaning if you don’t have the GPA or units during September but reach the minimun units after Fall, you’ll get the TAG approved. We had a huge discussion about this last year and clearly remember a few people vehemently arguing this. I’m not sure what thread it was in. I’ll post it if I find it later when I get out if bed. Ha

Mermaker: I’m not 100% but I’m like 95% sure that you need to meet the minimum 30 units to submit the TAG in September but GPA isn’t reviewed by them until March I believe which allows for them to take the Fall grades into account.

Yes, I remember now. I think you’re right about the GPA thing. I’m sure that’s what people were saying.

From UCSB’s TAG information: “Applicants must have completed 30 UC-transferable semester units (excluding AP/IB/A Level units) prior to TAG submission.”

See if there are any summer classes you could add into at any local CC- some have three week sessions starting soon.
As Matt4200 mentioned- many CC’s have a “credit by examination” policy, but it is usual not well-known. (Just realized even my tiny CC also has such a policy.) If you cannot find anything online about such, I would go ask in person.

If none of the above options work, you might as well still apply for TAG. Some may say it is a waste of time, and while it is likely your TAG will be rejected, there is the off chance it could be approved.

You already seem to be a good student if you meet the TAG GPA minimum, so if you hit a dead end with TAG’ing, keep up the good grades in the Fall and hope for the best with admission decisions.

@merkmaker

TAG GPA is the GPA that the student holds at the end of the summer term. (This GPA must also be at or above the required minimum GPA.)The TAG is signed during the Fall semester/quarter

Yes, I’m aware. I did a TAG last year.

Osiq: Each UC has their own definition of a TAG GPA and in this case with Santa Barbara it means the GPA at the end of the Fall Semester.
