<p>Over the past two years I have spent much of my time pursuing scientific research, but it was only towards the end of this year that I fully realized how much my research experience meant to me. My research experience began towards the end of my sophomore year when I was accepted to the Garcia MRSEC Research Scholars Program. At the program I was given the opportunity to undertake research of my own and make a novel contribution to the scientific community. In addition I acquired a far greater understanding and depth of scientific knowledge. Yet most of all research and the Garcia Center have allowed me to experience the life of a research scientist. From the long hours and months of fruitless work to the joy felt when discovering that your hard work and dedication has amounted to something meaningful and important.</p>

Based on my data my mentor and I designed an outline for a portable chip, which could one day be used by law enforcement to combat bio-terrorism. From research I have acquired a far greater understanding of scientific knowledge. Most of all, research and the Garcia Center have allowed me to experience the life of a research scientist, from the long hours and months of fruitless work to the joy felt when discovering that one’s hard work and dedication has amounted to something meaningful and important.</p>
