I know I am a tad behind, but I need help picking a topic for the short answer portion of the common app. Should I write about my ability to eat fire or should I write about a more traditional activity such as mock trial or student council? Do college admissions officers want to see that I have a unique talent or do they not really care?

I’d vote for eating fire.

There are X students in mock trial/student console… Theres one applicant who can eat fire. Look at it from the admissions perspective, they want interesting people - and thats damn cool. BTW have u ever tried filling ur hand up with butane and lighting it?

yah I have filled my hand with butane.

does that trick work in your mouth? (never tried)

I have never tried but I wouldn’t suggest it.

Oh my effing gosh. Do you seriously eat fire?! (Well not ACTUALLY eat it but…well you know)

That is so freaking tight.

Write about it? I’d send in a video, that sounds so cool.

i have a question about the short answer part of the common app: am i supposed to just plainly explain one thing i do/why i enjoy it/how it has influenced me or should it be more narrative (ie, describing a situation about how that one activity has influenced me)?

bump…bump…

Yes I would like an answer to moonwave89’s question too…

Think of the short answer as another opportunity to reveal something about yourself. Lots of kids are involved with lots of different extracurriculars. What makes yours special or different or important to you?? Are you a 5’0" basketball player like Spud??

With regards to the original fire eating question, I’d love to see you write about that. But put a twist on it. How did you learn, why did you learn, how do you use your talent to benifit others, etc??

out of curiosity, i wanna know a little more background behind how you eat fire :P

I d like to read

Eating fire sounds like a great topic. It will definitely catch adcom’s eyes if you can make the story exciting
