Short-lived film career

S’s long-anticipated premier of Love and Other Drugs was last night here in Pgh. Although he said that he liked the movie, the scene that he and his film class were in ended up on the cutting room floor. Oh well! Maybe it will make the deleted scenes on the dvd. It was a good experience being an extra and they did get to meet and interview the director and Jake.

Kevin Costner’s first film role (The Big Chill) also ended up on the cutting room floor and it didn’t seem to hurt his acting career, so your son is in good company. :)

^^^^I’m trying to remember…wasn’t he the dead body being dressed for burial in the opening sequence? The guy everyone talked about but we never saw?

Yes, Kevin Costner was Alex, the friend who died. I think he did pretty well for himself. :)

Don’t despair. When the movie comes out on Blu Ray there are always extra scenes. It might show up there.

And IMHO, it remains his best work. Subtle, nuanced. Brilliant. ;)

I don’t know, curmudgeon, I thought he was a little stiff.

lotsofquests, best wishes to your son and I hope next time he’ll be on screen!

I was an extra in The Next Three Days, but I’m not bothering to go to the theater to see if I made it into the movie. I’ll wait for the DVD! There has been a lot of filming going on in Pittsburgh the last few years.

I know how your S feels - I was an extra for the original Hairspray in the 80s, at the scenes that were filmed at Dorney Park in Allentown, along with a few officemates at the time. One of us made it on the film, but alas the rest of us did not make the cut.

At least he got to meet Jake - wish I could!!

My sibs were extras in the waiting room of “Little People” starring our neighbor, Brian Keith, filmed in HI decades ago. If you blinked, you missed seeing them. It was their seconds of fame, never to be repeated.

My right shoulder was in a Toyota commercial once but I never made it to the big screen.

Trivia – Originally Kevin Costner was supposed to have scenes in ‘The Big Chill’ in flashbacks with the other characters. But the movie ran too long so his scenes were chopped and he remained only as ‘the corpse’. His first speaking scene in a movie was in ‘Frances’, the movie about Frances Farmer in which he says ‘Goodnight Frances’ in a barely audible monotone during a stage-door scene. He had to say something in order to stay in SAG.

my nephew was in a Kevin Costner movie ( no wait- that was Dennis Quaid) I think he was about five, he was sitting on Santas lap.

OK, while we are talking about appearances in movies:

My d appears in the movie Every Little Step, which is about the making of the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line. She attended an open call in NYC for fun and ended up staying all day to dance…down to the last 17 dancers out of several hundred. She had a BLAST. She can be seen dancing in some of the trailers for the movie, but in the final thing, you see her face as the audition director tells those who will be dancing more what they will be doing next. You don’t see her dancing at all. Sad.

I saw the movie (along with my D) when in was in theaters (limited release). DH and I netflix’d it a few weeks ago. He had no idea that she was recognizable. It was fun to watch his reaction as he saw his daughter on the screen! :)

Even though it’s a documentary, it’s a really, really captivating movie. And makes for a fun story as my very, very tall daughter got to dance with the VERY tiny Byork Lee in her face. She loved it!

I stopped reading at “at least we met Jake”…

My 17 yr old would kill or die to meet him…her biggest crush ever!!!;

and that includes “eliminating” Taylor Swift to do so…haha; and she’s a fan of hers!!!

Rodney – She shouldn’t worry. Neither Taylor nor Jake have a good track record. I give 'em 6 months…max.
