Short Statements

These questions are open to A LOT of interperetation. Does NU want to know who you are, or how well you can think (outside the box)? Should I be overanalysing the first question:
in under 50 words:

“If you could pose for a formal oil portrait in the style of Hans Holbein’s The Ambassadors, what possessions would surround you and why?”

Should i choose an item or two that represent who I am, like a bookcase, to show my love of books, or my dog because i love him? OR should i be not using tangible possessions at all i.e. life(it is always there, in my dog(rather than the dog itself)?
please help!!!

I was just out there this past weekend for the Discover NU program and they stressed showing your personality in your essays. They said that you shouldn’t try and come up with some really profound answer or something really creative. Just be yourself and show them who you are.
I originally had a really “out of the box” answer for the portrait quesiton but I decided to change it and make it just about me.
Good luck!

Agreed…they just want to get an idea of who you are and what is important to you. If you stress too much and try to hard to come off as intellectual or supercreative, it’s not going to give the admissions office a clear picture of you.
