<p>My essay limit is 250 words but this limit is not enforced. I have 251 words so far, but can't seem to find a word to take off. What will happen if I exceed the limit by 1 word? Will the essay lose points for that?</p>

<p>No you don’t lose points b/c your essay is obviously not graded. If the limit is not enforced then the 250 word limit is just a guideline. As long as the college application told you can go over 250 words you are fine.</p>
<p>This also means the contrapositive is true. If the college application did not say you may not go over 250 words you are fine too.</p>
