Shortlisting/Final selection

I’m planning to apply to:
5 goal universities, I want to get in. i’ve already decided them.
5 match universities at my level
Around 5 safety universities for back up.

My GPA is ~ 3.77/4.0
My SAT score is 1990.
i might give the SAT again for MIT/Harvard in Jan. I’m confident of scoring high.
Class rank is #1

SAT
Nov (May)
CR: 680 (520)
Math: 660 (630)
Writing: 650 (560)

I’m interested in sciences (maybe engineering)

Goal:
MIT
Harvard
Stanford
Cornell
CalTech
University of California, at Berkeley

Match:
I need names. Should be either in CA, or north-east U.S.A.

Safety:
Need names. Should be in CA. I plan to transfer later on if I get admitted in one of my goal universities.

Also I’m applying to the following
UC’s:
Berkeley, LA, Santa Barbara, San Diego.

Should I apply to any other of the UC’s as a match or safety(not sure if any would be a safety)
I was born in CA, but am not a US resident. Been out of country for a few years, but my permanent address is of CA
So please answer these 3 questions:
· More Names of Match in CA/North-East. More names of Safety only in CA
· Are the UC’s of LA, Santa Barbara, San Diego a match.
· Should I apply to other UC’s as a match or safety. If yes, which ones.

Thanks in advance.

I’m thinking of applying to Irvine, Davis, and Santa Cruz as well.

But the thing is in the end, I just want to transfer to MIT.

With your stats, all your reaches are very, very unlikely.

I’d suggest some SAT-optional schools. Despite the fact that I dislike Bard, it would be a good academic match for you.

You must realize that the transfer rate for MIT is a fraction of their regular acceptance rate between 1% and 3%.

Find a school where you can be challenged, and do well, for the next four years, if need be.

So I shouldn’t apply to the UC’s?

Apply to the UCs if you are a California resident.

UCLA and Berkeley will be reaches. UCSB, UCD, UCI are matches and UCSC, UCR safeties.

Application deadline for UCs is November 30th.

What is your UC GPA?

What is a “UC GPA”?
What about UCSD? Reach or match.
i’ve everything ready for the apps.

UC GPA: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html

UCSD: slight reach/match

I already applied to the UC’s. So there’s no use calucalting my UC GPA now
thanks for the help.

Can anyone answer the other question as well
· More Names of Match in CA/North-East. More names of Safety only in CA

ok I calculated it.
it’s 3.7 something.

My UC score for my SAT reasoning alone is 232. I still have to add the 2 SAT subjects scores i;'m going to give day after tommrow

So far my applying list : (i’ve applied to the UC’s i’ve listen below)

goals:
MIT (they’ll see my jan sat 1 score)
Harvard (same as above jan sat 1)
Stanford (nov sat 1990)
Cornell (nov sat)
CalTech (nov sat)

Reach:
Berkeley (applied)
UCLA (applied)
UCSD (applied)
Anymore good universities you think i should apply to in CA or North-East USA.

Match:
UCSB (applied)
UCD (applied)
UCI (applied)
Need a few more names, in CA or in North-east USA

Safety:

Need Names of universities only in CA.

EDIT: wait i calculated my gpa wrong. i put a number (3,4) for each semester not year, then divided
by the total number of semesters. or is this right. plus are you supposed to add a one to ur grade in ur AP courses?. then i should get four 5’s instead of the four 4’s i put.

bump…

Very very low chances at any of the goal school.

Try this; take their “reach”/“match” with a grain of salt.

[Counselor-O-Matic Academics on The Princeton Review](College Search | Find Colleges | The Princeton Review)

ok. i gave my sat 2’s on dec 1st
i think i did well on biology-m and math level 1, but terrible on level 2.

now please I’d really appreciate if you help me choose my match in CA/North-East
and safety universities in CA

Engineering suggestions in the Northeastern states: W.P.I., Delaware, S.I.T., Clark, Clarkson.

noobcake, i don’t think that counselor-o-matic is very good… i guess i see what you mean about a grain of salt…
as matches, it gave me yale, NYU, northwestern, ucla, berkeley, unc chapel hill, vanderbilt, Uchicago, and johns hopkins, but it said washU, where i am a double legacy (there is a spot on the questionairre about this, so it does know) was a reach.
it also said that william and mary and case western were safeties.
