Shot at merit money?

My S loved American. He will be applying this coming Fall. Do you think he’d have a shot at merit $? His stats are: 3.8 UW, 3.95 W, 1360 (CR + M)/2040 SAT. He has the usual ECs, with heavy emphasis on theater productions, and lots of AP’s. The major that interests him at American is Law and Society. Thanks.

Most definitely.
I had a 3.4 uw and 1990/1390 and they gave me a 6000 scholarship and 15000 in grants. I could see American covering his tuition (not room and board though which is quite pricey) especially if he’s regular decision.

I’m going there next year if you have any other questions.

American didn’t even cover my full tuition, and I was 3.9 UW, way beyond 4.0W, 1560/1600 SAT. I came 5000 short.

What about me? Think I could get some?

3.65 GPA 4.0 + weighted

1470 SAT scores

Deface, $5,000 tuition cost a year is great! Congrats! Did you get a merit scholarship that covered most of the tuition, or is that a combination of merit and financial aid? Does anyone have an opinion as to if merit money is also tied to what you will major in? For example, a less popular major may have more merit $$ available for those who declare that major?

It was solely a merit scholarship, and then I received additional financial aid to help cover that other 5000 (as unsubsidized loans)
