DS is registering for classes for his senior year. Currently he takes Honors Pre-Calc and has a B+. He is looking at apply to pre-pharm programs or 0-6 pharmD programs. Will it make a difference on his college applications if he takes both AP Calc and AP Stats? Will AP Calc suffice? He will also being taking AP English along with regular physics. He’s looking at University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, and Ohio Northern. Getting into these schools won’t be a problem but getting into the pharmacy program is more difficult. I’d appreciate any advice.

It does make a difference in taking both classes as far as course rigor goes which can sometimes be decisive in scholarship decisions. I take both AP Calc and AP Stats and stats is not challenging math-wise in the slightest. However, this is probably not required to get into any of those schools…even at the level of their pharmacy programs. Calc would probably suffice, but the more advanced classes you take, the better you look. :D

not to mention college credit.

I know some ‘maths’ kids doing so now, and they seem to like it/do well. Why not?

I’m taking AP Calc BC and AP Stat this year. It’s definitely manageable. I’m taking AP Gov and AP Spanish this year too.

If your son doesn’t find math very difficult, then I’d say taking both stat and calc. Stat is actually a very interesting class, especially if your son’s school has a great stat teacher.
