Should I accept a phone interview?

Basically, the college I’m applying EA to will only be able to do a phone interview. I hate phone interviews with a passion, and from what I’ve heard from others, phone interviews tend to awkward, and worse than a live interview.

I’d rather not interview at all rather than do a phone interview. However, I’m afraid that if I reject the interview, the college will take that as a sign of disinterest.

Should I just take the interview and risk it going poorly, or reject the interview and risk seeming disinterested?

Do the interview. Don’t make it a bigger deal than it is.

I agree: do the interview.

And if you’re that nervous about it, see if you can enlist some volunteers to do practice interviews with you. I’m thinking parents of close friends, perhaps? Someone you don’t know well, but who’d still be willing to do it. See if you can find some volunteers!

reno: the interview isn’t going to be a “gotcha” session or meant to trip you up, you know that, right? The college is looking for a reason to admit you.

Here’s guidance for one college’s interviewers – note the tone: http://caaan.admissions.cornell.edu/ContactTips&Advice.pdf
