I’m a Chinese international student(girl) with 2210 SAT single sitting, 7 APs, 111 Toefl. I’ve lived in the U.S for 6 years and have plenty of ECs. I was waitlisted for Undecided Social Sciences, but was accepted into UCSB as a regents scholar.
Considering that I really DO like UCSB’s balance of social life and academics, and think I’ll be much more privileged there (receive a lot more attention from the school and professors), I don’t know if I should bother to wait for UCLA. After all, I had a gut feeling of belongingness when I spoke to UCSB’s chancellor in person, and I could choose any major I want there.
Anyone have suggestions?

why not?

It sounds like you are really happy with going to UCSB and yes, you will have more advantages there being a Regents. Flexibility in major, especially since you are undecided is a nice luxury to have at UCSB. And it is nice to know they really want you. Are you struggling because you feel you should want UCLA more because other people seem to? Don’t get caught up in what is right for others, this is your life. If you don’t really want to go to UCLA more than UCSB, and are happy going to UCSB for academic and social reasons, it seems like it is time to move on. Then again, you can certainly stay on the wait list, the “why not?” above is a good answer. But perhaps you feel like you really want to commit, buy the UCSB sweatshirt and get on with things. That is normal, this is a long process and wanting it to be over is normal. But many kids that are 100% sure still don’t accept till closer till May 1st leaving options open, some are still needing to visit schools and decide, so there is certainly no rush. You may get more information or circumstances could change. So I would emotionally commit 100% to UCSB - do all the things you need to do like commit if you need to in order to get in housing priority queue etc., wear that feeling for awhile, but stay on the UCLA wait list. No harm in doing that, just don’t let it consume you - put it in the back of your mind if you can and move on! You will know if it is time to close the door totally on UCLA, maybe tomorrow or a month from now, or till you hear one way or another. Trust your gut, instinct is a powerful thing! Good luck!

Thanks for the answers. Cadreamin you convinced me to accept the waitlist。 Maybe this will change my life, thank you so much.

Good luck ScarlettSaay! UCSB as a Regents is a dream for many, so if you go there, do all you can with it! And if UCLA comes calling, your heart will know what to do. Learn what you can between now and then and go where YOU think you fit best. You are approaching this with a great positive attitude which is a very good sign for your future! If you don’t mind, let us know how it turns out for you. Wish you well!
